Spelling list this week is number 8 ‘ff’. Children should choose 6 words from the list to practice over the course of the week.

Numeracy homework has been assigned on Education City. All children have their log in details in their homework folders.

Can all pupils please remember to bring in clothes for outdoor learning tomorrow. We will be going outside to create some art work so we will be getting messy. If it is raining heavy we will go out on Wednesday instead.

Halloween Parade

Thank you to everyone who came and watched our Halloween parade. As always it was a fantastic turn out and the costumes were amazing! P2b had a lovely afternoon listening to Halloween songs, eating their treats and performing to their families. Check out our  pictures from the afternoon.

W/E 3.10.19

Primary 2b have had a very busy week this. We have introduced some new areas to our classroom which the pupils have loved using. We now have a home corner and a ‘den’ in the class for everyone to use.

Primary 2b started learning about healthy and unhealthy foods this week. We sorted food and drink into healthy and unhealthy categories and we even tasted some healthy fruit and vegetables. We then voted for our favourite. Blueberries were the winner!

We also learned some more about forces this week during science. There was lots of independent learning happening during this time. We built ramps and tested what effect different surfaces would have on the motion of the toy cars. We also explored with bubble ain’t to investigate what force we would need to use to create the bubbles.

P2b were very busy on Halloween. We had lots of fun during maths taking part in different Halloween themed activities.

We have been working on measuring and practicing our number bonds.

Outdoor Learning

Next Tuesday we are hoping to go outside and take part in some art activities. Could all pupils please bring appropriate clothing and footwear into school e.g. long joggies, t-shirt, jumper and warm jacket, wellies/trainers that are allowed to get muddy. Can this be brought in for Tuesday 5th.

Thanks, Miss McFlynn 🙂

Science Centre

Today we visited the Science Centre with P2a. We had an amazing day out and learned lots of new exciting things whilst also developing our exsiting skills and knowledge. All of P2b showed fantastic listening and talking skills throughout the day and represented St. Mark’s brilliantly.

This term we have been learning about Forces in science. At the science centre we took part in a ‘Fun with Forces’ workshop. We learned about the forces ‘push’ and ‘pull’ and sorted toys into each category. We also discuses magnetism and investigated which materials were magnetic and non magnetic. Lastly during the workshop we spoke about gravity and we even got the chance to launch our own rockets! Check out us in action!

After the workshop we had time to explore the three floors of the Science Mall. We had the opportunity to interact with hundreds of different exhibits based on a different topics in science. We loved exploring the body works floor and learning about our heart rate, DNA, organs and much more!

We also loved letting our imaginations run wild at the big explorer area where we had the opportunity to build, be pirates and explore with water.

We had great fun learning about different types of energy, electricity, gases and materials. It was an amazing day had by all and we can’t wait for the opportunity to visit again!

Homework WB 22/10/19

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about ‘The Past’. This week for homework as it is a short week the boys and girls have been asked to find out about the history of their family. All pupils should then create a simple family tree to show their findings. All pupils have been given a blank sheet of paper to complete their family tree. Pupils do not need to use this paper, they can be as creative as they wish and create their own format using paper or digital technologies. This could simply be a labelled picture of their family. Some examples can be found below:

There will be no numeracy homework to complete this week, however, pupils can still access sumdog or education city at home if they wish.

REMINDER:

All Science Centre consent forms need to be handed in by tomorrow.

Happy Birthday!

Primary 2b would like to wish Sienna a massive happy birthday today! We hope you have a fantastic night at gravity. We can’t wait to hear all about it!

Maths Week 2019

P2b have been loving maths week so far! This week we have been using lots of different numeracy skills across all areas of the curriculum.

P2b showed this week that they are very independent learners. They have been hard at work creating their own patterns using different resources in the class.

Also during maths week we have been experimenting with different resources that can help us with adding and subtracting. Our favourites so far have been the recknreck counting frames and the numeracy blueprints.

We went on a treasure hunt around the playground this week. We had to use a map to locate each clue in the playground. Once we had found each clue we had to use our counting skills to add up the number of objects at each point. We had lots of fun working together to find the treasure!

This week we had a visit from a very special person…. BOOKBUG!! We had a fantastic morning singing songs and listening to a story all about numbers and counting.

Today we learned about symmetry. We used this knowledge and our art skills to design symmetrical butterflies.

Lastly, today we channelled our inner Mary Berry and made our own Chocolate Krispie Cakes. We had so much fun using our measuring skills to weigh out the ingredients. We worked together as a team to melt the chocolate, mix the ingredients together and spoon the mixture into the cases. They tasted yummy!

I was very lucky that I had 2 fantastic volunteers to help wash and dry the dishes!
