Fairtrade Fortnight

First of all I would just like to say a huge thank you to all who attended and donated towards our Fairtrade Coffee Morning. We managed to raise £66.10 and exceeded our initial target set by the Co Op. Here are some pictures from the successful morning.

Over the past few weeks we have learned a lot about Fairtrade. We started off our topic discussing what we already knew about Fairtrade. Not many of us had heard of Fairtrade before.

We then had a look at some objects related to Fairtrade. We discussed together what they each showed and then decided which interested use the most. From this we decided as a class what we wanted to start learning about first.

We started learning about what kinds of Fairtrade products there are sold in the Uk. We worked together to research these products. From our research we created our own shopping lists.

Some groups even used their mathematical skills and used the calculators to total up how much their shopping would cost.

In writing we also listened to the story of Pablo the Super Banana. We learned that Pablo made sure that all the farmers got the pay they deserved. We then wrote our own stories about Pablo.

Finally before our coffee morning we used Fairtrade chocolate to create Krispie cakes for our parents and carers to eat.

Author Visit

Yesterday marked the beginning of ‘World Book Week’. Primary 2 were very lucky to have received a visit from Coo Clayton, author of ‘Maggie’s Monsters’. She came in to read her new book to us and to do some arts and crafts activities. We loved the book and really enjoyed helping Maggie on the hunt for her monsters.

After we heard the story Coo challenged us to make our own binoculars just like Maggie had in the story. We worked together to help one another cello tape our binoculars together.

We then tested out our binoculars. Some of us made maps and went on a hunt for buried treasure.

Fairtrade Coffee Morning

All P2 pupils should now have received a letter regarding our Fairtrade Coffee Morning. If you have not received this letter please write a note in your child’s communication diary and we will get another to you, or see below:

This will be held in the gym hall this Friday  6th March at 9:45am – 10:30am.  Tea, Coffee and some Fairtrade snacks will be provided by P2, however to ensure a successful event we would be very grateful for any donations of biscuits or cakes.

Please return the tear of slip on the letter indicating if you wish to attend and how many.

Many Thanks,

Miss McFlynn and Miss Cathcart
