National Numeracy Day!

P1b celebrated National Numeracy Day by getting outside to enjoy lots of exciting activities!!

The Apples were working on addition calculations within 10

The Pears were working on partitioning numbers within 100 and we focused on being able to identify how many tens there are within a 2 digit number!

The Strawberries were testing out their measuring skills with a throwing competition! They worked out distances in metres to see who could throw the farthest!

And of course we had lots of fun playing!

Outdoor learning!

Today Primary 1b spent the morning outside enjoying the sunshine! We got our den making kit out and we were being very creative engineers. We made a maze with our ribbon and we were exploring force on the tyres. What an exciting morning!

Science – forces

This week we started to talk about forces! We learned that a force puts an object in motion and that a force can be a push or a pull. We took some cars outside to investigate different ways we could put them in motion by pushing and pulling.

On Thursday we will experiment with ways we can move our own toys so please remember to choose something to bring in from home!

Homework wb 13/5/19

Words and reading books are in folders this week for homework. Please see games on Education City for maths homework 🙂

This week Primary 1b will begin learning about Forces during our science lessons. Your child is welcome to bring in a toy to share with the class which they have to push or pull to make move.

Thank  you!

Golden time

P1b made some great choices with their play during golden time today! We have been learning about recycling so Jay, Logan and Joshua were using the recycling truck in their role play!

Cieran and Hannah went on a walk around the school and asked if anyone had any bottles for recycling. They collected them and recycled them in the staff room plastics bin!

Sophia, Monroe and Millie were practicing some calculations in the atrium!

Lena, Lauren, Sienna, Chloe and Lacie were making some beautiful creations using the craft station!! Well done girls!

Primary 1 measurement

Yesterday Primary 1b went outside to do some measuring! We worked with our learning buddies to draw around our bodies with chalk. We then used lots of different items from the classroom to measure how long our bodies are.

When we came back in to class we had a discussion and we realised that it is really important to measure things using a scale in order to make sure that the measurement is accurate and we talked about centimetres and metres! Well done P1b!

Message from the Easter Bunny!

P1b came in to class this morning to find a message and some treats from the Easter Bunny!

The Easter Bunny was running out of ideas and asked us to think about what we would do if we were him! We did some fantastic writing which we decorated with a bunny to take home today and we made some Easter cards!

Great work everybody!

Science – The Senses

P1b continued their learning around ‘the senses’ this week! We learned about our sense of touch and we played a game where we took turns at being blindfolded and used our sense of touch to guess the item we had in our hands! We were able to use some fantastic describing words to talk about the items we had!

Now that we have learned about all 5 senses, today we went on a walk around the school and used them to identify things that we could see, hear,  smell and touch! We added things that we could taste after lunch!

Well done Primary 1!
