Telephone Lines Next Week
We have been advised that the telephone lines may be intermittently unavailable next week due to essential works by East Renfrewshire Council.  If you cannot get through via telephone, we would recommend that you get in contact with us via email to nurserymail@netherlee.e-renfrew.sch.uk.  We will send an update when the phone services have resumed.

Diversity Month
We would love to learn from and with you! We will be exploring different cultures, languages and traditions, as always, but we would appreciate if any families would like to share skills, languages or talents. If you would like to teach us something, please just let Mrs Greig or Mrs Toman know when you are here for drop off or collection.

Loose Parts
We would appreciate your donations of loose parts to support creativity and woodwork activities.  If you already have any of the items below, and would like to donate them, please drop them in to nursery next week.

Corks, old CDs, milk top lids, buttons, cotton reels, wool, fabric book samples, leather offcuts

Stay and Play- week beginning 27^th January
Sign-up sheets will be available for your convenience in the foyer from Monday 13^th January. There are opportunities to come in each day.  We encourage only one person per child to attend please. This helps to ensure there is a safe and enabling environment for all children.

Parent Council Meeting Highlights

Community Events: East Renfrewshire A Place to Grow
A new East Renfrewshire Community Planning Partnership vision – East Renfrewshire A Place to Grow – has been launched. The vision sets out the shared hopes and aspirations between now and 2040 so that East Renfrewshire is a place where everyone can flourish, thrive and grow. Please see poster for the Occupational Therapy Advice Line. The Advice Line is open on Tuesdays 1.30pm-4pm and Fridays 9.30am-12noon.

Community Events: Free Family Cooking Sessions from Thrive Under Five

Option 1: Family cooking sessions at Busby Parish Church, 20 Church Rd, Busby, G76 8EB on Fridays, 3:30-4:30pm, for 6 weeks from 17th January 2025 (17th Jan, 24th Jan, 31st Jan, 7th Feb, 14th Feb, 21st Feb).

Option 2: Family cooking sessions at Mearns Library, 45 Mackinlay Place, Newton Mearns, G77 6EZ on Tuesdays, 1:30-2:30pm, for 6 weeks from 25th February 2025 (25th Feb, 4th Mar, 11th Mar, 18th Mar, 25th Mar, 1st Apr)

Friday 20th December
Although the school closes at 2.30pm on Friday 20th December, the nursery will remain open for routine hours until 6pm

Parent Council Meeting Update
Please note that the date of the next Parent Council meeting has been changed from what was originally in the calendar at the start of the school year and this will now take place on Wednesday, 22 January 2025. It would be lovely to see some new parents/carers join us for school and nursery updates and improvement priorities.

Festive Wishes
As we approach the end of term, we extend our warmest wishes to you and your family.  At Netherlee we learn about many religions and traditions and know that some of our families will be celebrating Hanukkah soon too. So Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas to all who celebrate these joyous festivals!

Our nursery and school will open the doors again on Monday 6^th January, ready to welcome our wonderful children back. Until then, we hope you have a peaceful holiday surrounded by family and friends.

It has been another fun week at nursery with lots of learning through play. The children have been busy creating impressive structures in the block play, singing songs and exploring the process of creating art through a variety of materials. Outdoor play and fresh air has been popular as always. There certainly is a buzz about the nursery!

Festive Sing Along
We look forward to welcoming you to Saplings for our festive sing along on the dates below. We have two dates to facilitate allowing 2 parents per child to attend.
Tuesday 10th December at 10:30am: Butterflies, Deer, Badgers and Hedgehogs
Wednesday 11th December at 10:30am: Rabbits, Otters, Foxes, Squirrels and Owls
We politely request that you do not bring hot drinks in to the nursery building for Health and Safety reasons.

Special Books
Week Beginning 9th December, the children will be bring home their ‘Special Books’. We know how much you all appreciate looking at these together with your child and look forward to reading your comments in the books. To allow you plenty of time to look at these with the family, we would ask that all books are returned to us by Monday 16^th December.

Winter Fayre – Thank You
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Winter Fayre last week. It was a wonderful evening and as well as being a lot of fun, helped us to raise an amazing £3549.76. This money will go to our school and nursery funds and will be used, amongst other things, to help us to improve the play equipment children can use outdoors. Thank you again for supporting our community fayre and fundraising efforts.

School Registration
East Renfrewshire Council invites you to apply for a P1 catchment place for your child at the preferred primary school for school academic year 2025-26. You must apply for a place at your preferred catchment school even if you intend to make a placing request to another school; this ensures a place is held for your child in the event of an unsuccessful placing request. If you intend to educate your child privately or at home, you should still inform your local catchment school of your intention.

For P1 catchment school applications you can apply online via our online application form, which can be found on Council’s website at https://www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/apply-for-p1 where you will also find a copy of the Council’s school admissions policy.

Online applications should be made from 2 December 2024 until 19 January 2025. Any catchment applications after 19 January 2025 should continue to be submitted using the online form. However, it is advisable, where possible, to make your application by this date as this provides you with the optimum chance of securing a place in your preferred school.

Clothing & Lost Property
As the temperatures have dropped again recently it has highlighted the need for appropriate layers of warm and waterproof clothing for learning outdoors and indoors. Please take time to check that your child has a change of clothes, hat and gloves when coming to nursery. If you wish to leave your child’s wellies in nursery, please make sure they are named. If you are having a clear out and have any spare gloves or mittens, we would gladly recycle them for you. Please just hand them in to one of our staff. They will be well used in this cold weather.  Our ’Lost Property’ items are growing. Please have a look next time you have a few minutes – you might find a long lost piece of clothing!

Scottish Artwork
Thank you to everyone who came along to the fayre and supported our school and nursery fundraising activity.  The evening was a great success. If you weren’t able to make it along and would still like to collect your child’s piece of Scottish Artwork, and make a suggested donation of £2,  they will be available at the Saplings entrance all next week- from Mon 2^nd Dec – Fri 6^th Dec, please just ask a member of staff at drop off or pick up time.

It has been a chilly week with lots of opportunities for outdoor learning about changing weather conditions and the wonder of mark making on frosty surfaces!  Many stories have been told, read and written this week. Bookbug sessions were fantastic as always. This week the Bookbug session was in Gaelic. Our visitor, Ishbel Campbell, introduced vocabulary for colours and numbers to 5. Ask the children to share their learning with the family. I have chatted to quite a few of you at the gate and door and am practising all the new names. Thank you for your warm welcome!

Book Bug
We would love you or one of your family members to join us for one of our Bookbug sessions during week beginning 25^th November.  Younger siblings are also more than welcome to attend these lively, interactive sessions with Joanne and Lynne. Dogs
A reminder please to request that dogs are kept on a lead if bringing them to the gates and surrounding areas at pick up and drop off times.  Please could we ask that all dogs are kept back from the school gates. This is to help keep everyone safe and also to recognise that some children and adults may be a little scared of dogs that are off the lead.  Many thanks for your help and understanding with this. Farewell Mrs Kerr
Many of our families know Mrs Angela Kerr very well as Principal Teacher of our Nursery.  I am truly delighted to share the wonderful news that Angela has recently secured a Head Teacher position at Cartmill Family Centre.  I am sure you will want to join me in wishing Angela much happiness and continued success throughout her future career.  Angela’s last day at Netherlee will be Friday 8^th November.  We will miss you greatly Angela but I couldn’t be happier for you and know that you will do a fantastic job in your new nursery. Parents Meetings
On our Annual Calendar you’ll see that we have Parent Meetings during weeks beginning 4^th November and 11^th November 2024. After the October holiday we will have sheets available for you to sign up for a 10 minute appointment with your child’s keyworker.
