Sleekit Mr Tod Artwork

A few of our students showing off their impressive illustrations of The Sleekit Mr Tod – our recent class novel.

The pupils were focusing on creating tone, texture and form in their image which I think they have achieved beautifully!

Tower Building

We finished off STEAM week on a high as students worked in teams to design and build their own tower buildings, made from spaghetti and marshmallows. After constructing their model, we put their tower to the test and challenged its stability by creating a man-made  earthquake.

As a class we voted on our strongest contenders and went head to head with Primary five.  We’re pleased to report that four of our towers managed to stay upright! Well done P4a!

Exploring Electricity

It was a hair-raising morning in P4a as Chris from Fun Science put on an electrifying show for the students. After creating our very own human circuit, we tried our hand at the Van de Graaff Generator, as we watched some of the students hair rise to the ceiling! We then had fun watching connecting our fingers with the energy inside of a plasma ball.

Why not question your pupils about the electricity in a lightening bolt next time there is a storm.

Think Science

Today Primary 4 and 5 had fun in the hall with John from Think Science. We explored the power and pressure of air by creating a small-scale hot air balloon, looked at the weight of our bodies and figured out how to measure the weight of our heads through water displacement.

Prosthetics Workshop

As part of Busby STEAM week, P4a attended a learning workshop about prosthetics. The pupils were able to interact with  a variety of aids including prosthetic legs and arms, running blades and wheelchairs. They discussed the detailed process of creating these items and how they can positively impact someones life.

Ancient Egypt

We’re sadly coming to the end of our fascinating Ancient Egypt topic so this afternoon students were finishing off their detailed River Nile leaflets and Egyptian portrait artwork. I’m sure you will agree when I say they are absolutely brilliant! All of the students should be proud of their hard work and effort.

Show & Tell

For the past month, pupils have been sharing their hobbies with their classmates during Show & Tell. This week we had an exciting performance on the keyboard from Jessica, a lovely story about a cuddly bunny from Reezalyn and details of arty projects from both Ashwin and Sophia. Well done for demonstrating confidence when speaking in front of the class and to the others for showing excellent listening skills while their peers were presenting.

Achievement Assembly

This week, we celebrated success in the upper school with our first achievement assembly of 2020. A huge well done to the pupils who were recognised for their hard work across the curriculum this term. Pupils were awarded certificates for their hard work in numeracy, literacy, expressive arts and health and well-being. You are all doing brilliantly…. keep it up!

Learning workshop

A huge thank you to all of the family members who managed to pop into our classroom today to join in on the children’s learning! Don’t worry if you never managed to attend as we hope the below will give you a taster of our how our session went.

In science, we’ve been learning all about the human body. To reinforce our prior learning we set up five fun stations:

At station one, children reassembled the human body organs in the quickest time possible.

Station two, saw pupils cut and paste the major organs into the correct position.

At station three, we worked on our science presentations we began creating on Power Point.

We then created our own skeleton art of a hand or foot (where half of our bodies bones are found).

And finally, at station five, we solved a skeleton puzzle and labelled as many bones as we could.

Creating our own app!

This week, P4a were challenged with creating their own app. Working solo, in pairs, or groups of three, the children used their creativity to design fun, exciting, and sometimes educational, apps.

The pupils entries will be submitted to a competition by Make it Happen in which winners will have their app created for real by experts. What an exciting opportunity!

We all have our fingers crossed!
