Investigating, Extending and Exploring in P1A

Art

In Art we have been learning how to draw detailed line drawings. We studied the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and enjoyed learning how to draw the famous ‘Mackintosh’ rose.

Problem Solving

We have been enjoying using our knowledge of different strategies to help solve various problems and are improving our skills at explaining to others what we have done to work out a solution.

ICT

In ICT we have been learning how to access the internet, using internet explorer or google chrome. We have been using search engines to find sites to consolidate our learning across a range of different curricular areas.

Music

In Music we have been introduced to the difference between rhythm and beat. We have enjoyed learning some new poems to demonstrate this.

Maths

We have been exploring the relationship between different numbers and using the symbols for greater than and less than to compare numbers. We are able to identify and sort odd and even numbers and can continue number patterns counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We have also been looking at how we can use different coins to make the same amount and have been adding a selection of coins to check what is in our piggy banks or to pay for a range of items.

Literacy

We are really enjoying creating our own stories through play and writing about things we have done or places we have visited. We are extending our use of vocabulary and are keen to share our writing with others. We are able to select interesting facts from books or write about our favourite part from a story we have read. Within reading activities we are using skills such as prediction, finding information, sequencing events and answering in sentences.

IDL

Within our healthy eating topic we have been looking at food labels to help us sort food into healthy/unhealthy choices. We learned about how sugar and salt can be bad for our health if we eat to much of it and used our knowledge to create our own healthy meals. We have also been learning about different food groups and the importance of having a balanced diet.
