Nativity, Santa and the missing star

What a week it has been in Primary 1.

On Monday we were so happy to present our Nativity to all of our special guests. I think everyone felt a bit nervous at the start, but all enjoyed the performance and the children were all so proud of themselves afterwards.

We were so fortunate to be able to perform in Mearns Baptist Church – they are so much better and sound and lighting than I am!

Miss Robertson has come to the end of her placement with us, we really appreciated all of her help, especially with our Christmas crafts.

Today we had so much fun at our Christmas party – check out our fabulous dance moves!

We even had time for some delicious party food and then we had a visit from Santa!

Here a few more pictures of our learning from this week.

Finally, after much chat about the fact that the school Christmas Tree was not topped with a star, we took matters into our own hands and sorted it!

Joyeux Noelle!

This week we have been so lucky to have our student teacher Miss Robertson with us. Today she taught us all about how children in France celebrate Christmas. The children have enjoyed sharing their learning with her and showing her around our school.

In maths this week, we have been focusing on number. We had a washing line to help with addition and subtraction and lots of different number line activities.

Our new sound in literacy this week were qu, ou and oi and although we will not be bringing a new book home for homework, we continue to develop our reading skills in class using our Storyworld Books.

We are so lucky to have Miss Bishop to teach us about technology – this week we were programming the sphero robots.

We have been working  hard on our nativity and it was lovely to see that the children are so familiar with the Christmas Story that they created a nativity scene using the metal loose parts.

Our elf is still up to lots of mischief in our classroom!

Here are a few more pictures of this week’s learning.

I hope everyone has a great weekend – we are so excited to perform our Nativity next week. However, please pay close attention to the Parent’s Round Ups and any further information from Mrs McGuigan in case there are any changes to arrangements for Monday.

Elfie and other antics in P1A

Look who came to visit us this week! After a huge amount of debate and finally a vote, we named our Class Elf Elfie! He’s already been up to mischief. I wonder what he’ll do next week?

Our new phonics sounds this week were sh, ch and th and we had a special visit during one of our Literacy lessons from Ms Rodriguez who is  our QIO responsible for early years. She was so impressed with our classroom environment and how well the children manage their own learning. Everyone was so excited to show her around and tell her about everything we have been learning in P1 so far.

In Maths we have been learning the words for numbers.

In PE this week, we were working on our racket skills. We started balancing bean bags on rackets, but were quickly able to move onto tennis balls, we could bounce and catch them on the rackets and even pass them to our classmates.

Here are some more pictures of the amazing learning in class this week!

And finally I leave you with this picture – it made me smile and as Mrs Slorach said at the time, this just shows  how keen the children are to get into class and start learning!
