We are Reading Tricky Words in P1B!

We have been working so hard to recognise, read and write common word such as the, with and be. We know words such as me, be, he and she only have one ‘e’ even though it makes the ‘ee’ sound.

We are beginning to fix the punctuation in sentences as we know every sentence has capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

As we can identify different phonemes such as ‘th’, ‘sh’ and ‘ai’, we are becoming more confident to read tricky words in unseen texts, books and games.

We have been exploring non-fiction books and we have been introduced to the contents page. We are learning  how to use the contents page to find information.

We are sequencing stories to ensure it has a beginning, middle and end.

We are great at identifying what is true and false within a story and we are beginning to answer tricky comprehension questions by answering in full sentences.

Yesterday, we had such a special visitor! We got to meet the amazing author Chris Duke and he read to us his brilliant story called Lucy’s Blue Day.  He taught us that it is okay to be happy, sad, jealous, upset, angry and excited and to make sure we share our feelings with our families at all times.

We are Learning Number Names! (P1B)

We have been playing pass the parcel to learn the Number Names up to Twenty.

We were blending our words to read the Number Names. We can get them in the correct order!

We are super fast at solving addition calculations within 20.  Here, we have correctly answered the calculations on the cards. We use cubes, our fingers and a number line to help us count. We know we should always start with the bigger number.

We have been exploring subtraction! We know when we subtract numbers from each other, it gets smaller. Also, we know different language for subtraction, such as take away, less than and what is the difference.

We were using the numicon to count up to 100 but we found that it totalled to 304!

We were making Valentines Day cards and we hope if you received one, you loved it!

Outdoor Learning in P1B!

We have been working together as a team to overcome problems outdoors!

We were trying to make the water travel into the bucket without leaking.

We put some bricks higher to let the water flow properly.

Our water was eventually flowing down the ramp without any leakage!

Also, we were trying to get the water to flow down in to the tuff tray to get it full.

We were being super careful when we were hammering nails in to the wood! It took us a little bit of time to get the nail completely hammered through the wood. However, we didn’t give up and we managed to do it!

Here we are making an obstacle course and had to walk over the stones without falling in to the lava!

We love making Dens when we are outdoors and we barricaded ourselves in to tell each other stories.

I was joining all the different parts of wood to make a floor for my restaurant!

Catch up on our Learning in P1B!

We are developing our skills in Gymnastics! We were making a sequence using a travelling skill, shape, balance and a roll!

We have been learning about Sustainability. We were using recycled materials to make numbers for our Outdoor Learning Area.

In our Topic, we have been learning the importance of how to keep ourselves healthy.

We made a healthy lunch box with a variety of healthy food!

We are continuing to celebrate Chinese New Year as we made a Chinese Dragon!

Look at our Literacy Activities in P1B!

We have been reading the Hairy Maclary books! We are great at spotting alliteration in the story. We painted the story of Hairy Maclary.

We read stories which have tricky words in them! We use our blending skills and stretch the words out.

We love writing and drawing a recall of a story which we have read or enjoy creating our own stories.

We are using our Story World Words to make sentences.

This week we also had a special visitor! We got to meet a Turtle!

This weekend it is Chinese New Year and we completing art activities throughout the week to learn and celebrate it!

Lots of Learning in Maths (P1B)

Welcome back to our blog! This week we are showing all of our amazing learning in Maths.

We are splatting numbers up to 20 and can solve the missing numbers!

We love making number bonds! We are beginning to become faster at recalling number bonds for any number to 10.

We were trying to solve these addition questions before the timer ended… and we did!

We were using our creativity to make Symmetrical patterns using loose parts and paint.

We have began exploring 2D and 3D shapes!

Making Restaurants and Hotels Outdoors! (P1B)

Welcome back to our blog! We are super excited to show you all of our learning Outdoors.

We have had such heavy rain this week which created huge puddles. We were comparing deep puddles to shallow puddles by splashing in them.

Using teamwork, we were building a hotel. We made a dance floor, chairs for having dinner and made our roof stable and secure to make sure the rain didn’t get through.

We built the Hungry Horse! Within our restaurant, we displayed chocolate cake, chips, chicken nuggets and pasta. Inside our Hungry Horse restaurant we made a hotel!

We made number lines beyond 20! This one was up to 42.

We were exploring how water can travel and flow from the water tray to the tuff spot. We created a waterfall which was flowing water in to the bucket.

We love creating stories outside. We made a story about aliens!

I made a story about myself and Miss Amin!

This week is our first week being back and being reunited with our peers in the Primary One class. We can’t wait to share our learning next week!

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas! (P1B)

Welcome back to our last blog of 2019!

We have been learning and exploring Money! We can recognise different values of coins and were learning how to make amounts using different coins.

This week, we were exploring a Tuff Tray which was filled with bowls, soap bars, graters and whisks. We learnt how to use a grater safely and using soap bars we made soap and ‘icing’ for our imaginative cakes.

Our Christmas Party was so much fun! We got to play party games,  eat some snacks, dance with our friends and most importantly got to meet SANTA!

We have enjoyed making lots of Christmas Crafts and Cards to give to our loved ones.

In 2020, we are super excited to begin our learning in our new classroom. We have moved all of our belongings and spent some time becoming familiar with the classroom again.

I can’t wait to be reunited with everyone in January when you all return from the holidays and can’t wait to hear all your stories. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! See you all soon!

Lots of Learning and Festive Fun in P1B!

We had a special parcel delivered to our classroom last week! It was our Classroom Elf!

We took a class vote to name our Elf and the winning name was Cupcake! Each morning, we are super excited to see what Cupcake has been up to in the night.

We continue to reply to our Santa’s Chimney Message Board and write letters to Santa.

This week, we were also visited by a Dental Nurse and we showed her how amazing we are at brushing our teeth.

Thank you to everyone who came and watched us perform our Nativity Show. We worked so hard learning our lines, dance moves and all the songs. It was a great achievement for us to showcase our Show to everyone. We hope you enjoyed it!

Number Bonds and Data Handling in P1B!

We have began learning how to make number bonds! For example, we know you can make a variety of calculations for 3 such as 2+1, 1+2.

We timed ourselves to see how fast we can sort calculations underneath the correct number bond. Each day we do it, we get faster and faster at recalling the number bonds.

We use the computer to complete calculations!

We are using our large number line to solve what is two more than or two less than a given number.

We continue to complete addition calculations in a variety of activities.

We are exploring Data Handling! We know we can organise real objects by matching and sorting information.

We were exploring seasons of the year. Using a Venn Diagram, we sorted different clothing items into the correct heading.

We had so much fun exploring all the different items of clothing which we wear in the summer and winter. We discussed how they were different from season to season. For example, in Winter we were waterproof clothing or clothes which are warm and fluffy.

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

Using recycled materials we made our own Class Christmas Tree!

We arranged our Advent Calendar and decorations to display across our classroom!

We are so close to our Nativity Performance next week. We can’t wait to perform!
