Road Safety and Book Bug Week in P1B!

Within Road Safety Week, we have been learning how to keep ourselves safe!

We were spotting the dangers within different images and discussing the changes that could be made within the scenarios to make it safe.

Using collage, we created Traffic Lights!

We discussed important language and slogans surrounding Road Safety such as Be Safe, Be Seen, Stop Look and Listen and Be Bright.

We created Road Safety signs for our school bags with the important messages!

In PE, we have been exploring Gymnastics. We have learnt how to travel across different apparatus, know how to create different tucks and shapes and know how to create a sequence with different travelling skills and balances.

We have been super busy as last week it was also Book Bug Week! We had so much fun when we walked to the Library and got to read the three special books.

In January, we will be voting for our favourite book!

We are Learning Phonemes! (P1b)

We have almost covered all of our single sounds such as s,a,t,i,p,n…! We are now using our knowledge of sounds to blend them together to make words.

Miss Amin asked us if we could make rhyming words which end in -an and we did! We could blend, spell and read the words.

We love using magnetic letters to help us spell!

We are now beginning to learn all of the Phonemes such as oa, ai, ie and ee!

We are playing Roll and Read practising to read different words which contain Phonemes.

Across our classroom, we have lots of tricky words to explore within our play areas.

We are continuing to practise our letter formation to ensure we form it the correct way.

We were making a Road Safety Map and using our knowledge of sounds we were writing words we could blend such as ‘road’ and ‘cars’.

Super Addition Skills in P1b!

We have been super busy learning about addition! We can recognise the addition sign and the equals sign. We are also learning how to count on from the bigger number using our fingers, number lines and concrete materials such as cubes.

We know two numbers which are the same is a double!

We are sequencing and creating a number line to 10 using Numicon!

As it was Remembrance Day on the 11th of November, we held a two minute silence and spoke about the importance of Remembrance Day!

Outdoor Learning in P1b!

We have had a wonderful time in our Woodland area the past two weeks. Yesterday we returned to our Outdoor Learning Area which was very exciting!

We were working as a team, to help balance one another whilst climbing on the log and then jumping to land safely within the puddle.

H. was super pleased when he was able to create a tall building which he could stand on top of! Well done!

We were playing Kings and Queens. We were building a throne for ourselves using only crates.

We took our knowledge of sounds outdoors when we were splatting the sounds that we know!

We were creating a maze using lollipop sticks for our friends to follow!

We love exploring numbers, especially outdoors!

As a team. we worked together to flip the lid over to put it back safely on to the water tray.

Super learning as always P1B!

Learning through our Halloween Inspired Areas! (P1b)

Welcome back to our blog! We have enjoyed learning through play in our Halloween inspired areas. We began the week making a sign using all our knowledge of sounds.

We are sharing out our meals equally amongst our friends. We were making slimy and squishy pasta!

We were also making potions within our cauldron. We added in eyeballs, brains, frogs and stones to create different potions!

We are being extremely creative to make spooky characters. We made pumpkins, spiders, ghosts and vampires. We cut out shapes to create hands, mouth and eyes such as triangles and semi circles.

We have began Developing the Young Workforce and we started by completed a challenge within Design and Manufacture. We read the Little Three Pigs and our brief was to create a strong and stable house for the Pigs. However, we were only allowed to use cocktail sticks, dried beans and play dough.

However, using our concentration and team work, we solved how to make a house which was strong!

In our topic of People Who Help Us, we were exploring how we can look after our bones. We learnt that our hands have 27 bones each!

As a team, we worked hard to complete this puzzle. We were learning  interesting facts about the Human Body.

As we have four computers in our class, we have now learnt how to switch on a computer, log in using our username and password and can operate a mouse correctly. Well done everybody!

Learning in our New P1 Class! (P1b)

Welcome back to our Blog! We have came back from an amazing October week and have settled extremely well into our new class. We can’t wait to show you some of our learning!

We have learnt many new sounds. When we learn a new sound, we practise our letter formation to ensure we can write it correctly.

We are using Q-Tips to form letters, this helps our fine motor skills.

We are super confident in identifying pictures which begin with the same sound and we know that is called Alliteration!

When we were learning the sound ‘o’, we made an Octopus!

Now that we know so many new sounds, we are beginning to blend our sounds together to make words like mat, cat, hat.

Here we were solving the initial sound of a word, the middle and even the last sound! We could make words such as web, sun, log and jug.

This week we have been so lucky to have special visitors! We first met a Policeman who spoke about his job. He even showed us resources he uses when he is patrolling and keeping the community safe.

We also met a French Nursery teacher who works in Cannes. We have been learning French every week and he was very impressed with our skills!

Lastly, we are enjoying learning in our new P1 class and have settled in extremely well!

See you in our blog next week!

Exploring Maths in Exciting Ways in P1b!

Last week it was Maths Week! We completed many activities throughout different areas. Some were within the classroom, our play areas, outdoors and even within PE!

We were matching number flash cards to the correct Numicon. We are beginning to recognise the number frames of Numicon to make different numbers by adding two together.

We have also been exploring  numbers to 10 and even beyond! We are able to count out objects correctly relating to a large number.

We are measuring rice. We were comparing measurements. Some of us had an empty jug, half or full!

We were able to beat the timer. Our task was to sequence the numbers to 10 within one minute as a team! Miss Amin would hide a number and we had to find the missing number from the sequence. We were able to easily recognise the missing digit.

We are sequencing days of the week and months of the year! We are increasingly becoming better at recognising what day or month comes before or after.

We have been learning about Fractions. We have split our Pizza’s into half and made equal amounts on either side.

Within Outdoor Learning and PE  we have also been exploring Maths. In PE we played the number game. When Miss Amin shouted a number, we had to form a group with that amount of people.

Within our Outdoor Learning Area we were practising our number formation to ensure we are writing numbers the correct way.

Lastly, as part of our topic for People Who Help Us, we were visited by Cathy our amazing Lollipop Lady!

We will be back after the October Week! Have a great holiday week when it comes :)!

Outdoor Learning in P1b!

In our Outdoor Learning Area, we were making potions using pasta and were measuring how much we needed.

We love being creative in our imaginative stories. We were building a Den for our monsters which required team work and great problem solving skills.

Our monsters really wanted a dance floor with spot lights so we used markers and planks of wood.

We wanted our Den to look nice and new so we began to paint it!

We love exploring numbers outdoors and making number lines using chalk!

See you soon with our next blog!

Our First Blog by P1b!

Welcome to our very first Blog in Primary One! We are so excited to show you some of our learning!

We have been learning about Pointillism! We went on a listening walk outdoors to explore different birds. We then re-created a bird using the technique of Pointillism.

Within our Topic, we chose to learn about People Who Help Us. We were sorting the correct jobs which people do for us in the community.

Using our knowledge of shapes, we created Police Cars. We cut out circles for our wheels, squares for the windows and rectangles for the sirens.

One question we wanted to explore was, ‘How can we keep our teeth healthy?’. We learnt about having healthy gums and how to brush our teeth properly to prevent getting plaque.

Here we are searching for ‘teeth’ and scrubbing them properly to ensure they don’t have any plaque!

We were using pincers to place teeth into the empty holes!

We also recognised some sounds we have been learning this week within the word Dentist!

In Drama, we had so much fun re-enacting different characters from the Jungle! We love using our voice, actions and movements to create imaginative stories.
