Magic potions and Creepy crafts! w.b. 25.10.21

We really enjoyed trying out some Halloween activities this week. As part of our human body context we made some skeletons using cotton buds, while considering the different bones we have in our bodies.

Volume

As well as working on our number bonds, we have started to learn about volume in maths. So far we have been estimating which containers would hold the most/ least water and testing our predictions out. We had fun in our outdoor area making potions with some spooky ingredients!

Here we are figuring out which containers hold the most/ least amount of water.

w.b. 18.10.21 Puppets Shows and More Gymnastics

The girls and boys were very inspired by puppets before the October holidays. During their play they were busy making different puppets and role playing in our theatre. We had an idea to put on our own shows. With our groups we made posters for our shows and tickets to sell.

We performed our shows to an audience and even set up a class snack shop to sell food and drinks to our customers. What a lot of fun!

Gymnastics

Here we are continuing our gymnastics work by moving along the benches in different ways.

w.b. 27.09.21 Marvellous Maths Week and Our Digestive System

This week we have had lots of fun taking part in different activities as part of our maths week. We focused on symmetry, with us going on a symmetry hunt in the Woodland. It turns out we are surrounded by symmetry at every turn! The boys and girls made their own symmetrical pictures too and have had fun using mirrors to find the line/lines of symmetry on different shapes.

Our Digestive System

The boys and girls have been fascinated by what happens to our food after we eat it and enjoyed taking part in an experiment to find out about our digestive system. We mushed up bananas and biscuits to imagine we were chewing them in our mouths and added water for saliva. Then we added orange juice to pretend it was the acid in our stomachs, which helped to break the food down. After that we put the mixture into a pair of tights, imagining it was our small intestine getting all of the goodness out of our food. Finally our large intestine pushed the waste out to make poo! There were a lot of laughs and “eww’s” during our experiment!

We loved hearing Anna and Miral’s home made body books, with them telling us all about what they have learned. Some girls and boys even brought in some body books from home, which has helped us to learn about our digestive system and our skeletons!

w.b. 20.09.21 – A teddy bears picnic and terrific patterns!

We have lots to update you with from the past couple of weeks, with the most exciting being our class treat! The boys and girls have all worked extremely hard to earn enough marbles to choose a treat of their choice. We had a vote and having a teddy bears picnic was the winner. It was lovely meeting everyone’s teddy bears and sharing some snacks and stories together!

Shapes and patterns

In class we have been learning about 2D shapes and 3D objects. Here we are finding 3D objects in our classroom and creating some patterns with different shapes too.

Human body

Anna created her very own human body book to share with us in class. We loved hearing about what all the different body parts are for. In groups the boys and girls talked about the different organs and thought carefully about where they would be in our bodies.

P.E.

Here we are balancing along the benches and jumping off to make a shape at the end.

Here are some more pictures of the things we have been getting up to in class!

W.b. 6.09.21 – Shape Monsters and Friendship webs

We have had another busy week in P2A! The boys and girls have all been trying their very best with learning their sounds in Literacy. This week we have been focusing on ‘oa’ and ‘ee’.

“I was writing the words”. -Alina

We went on an ‘ee’ word hunt around our class.

“I was doing the scavenger hunt to find the numbers with the ee words on the back”. – Christian

In health and well-being this week we have been talking about our similarities and differences. We made a friendship web to find out what we had in common with one another.

” We made a friendship web, everyone in the class said what they like”. – Muriam

For art we had a go at drawing our own self portraits. We used mirrors to think carefully about our features.

This week we have been tidying up our lovely P2 garden and planning some new exciting things to put in it.

“We were making a fairy garden”. – Connie

” I was helping Miss Muir to get the weeds out”. – Menaal

“I was digging mud out of the tire”. -Gregor

With our human body topic underway, it has been very exciting planning new things to put in our play areas. We decided to make the role play into a hospital.

In P.E. this week we have been learning to make more shapes and hold different balances for gymnastics.

“We were doing shapes. You need to be a mirror and copy your partner”. – Cayla M

In maths we have been learning about 2D shapes and went on a shape hunt outside. We even made our own 2D shape monsters using the chalk!

” Me and Connie ticked the shapes off the list and then made our monster”. -Grace C

“We were making monsters out of chalk. We used a circle for the head and a rectangle for the body”. – Anna & Erin

Off to a flying start in P2A!

Welcome to our first ever class blog! We have had a fun filled busy couple of weeks settling in and getting used to our new routines.

Barnaby bear was delighted to meet so many new friends.

“We told him our names and he felt happy”. – Alina

“We held Barnaby bear and cuddled him”. -Meenal

There have been lots of super discussions about what we want our class to look like. We have been learning about our rights with the girls and boys thinking carefully about;

-the right to play

-the right to learn

-the right to be safe

We came up with some important class rules altogether after discussing our rights and even decided on some class helper jobs.

“I wanted a mini garden to play in” – Grace C

” We were putting our hand in paint for our class jobs.” – Erin

There have been lots of opportunities to find out a little bit more about each other.

“We were going around and asking each other if they had things like cats” – Ava
