w.b. 27.09.21 Marvellous Maths Week and Our Digestive System

This week we have had lots of fun taking part in different activities as part of our maths week. We focused on symmetry, with us going on a symmetry hunt in the Woodland. It turns out we are surrounded by symmetry at every turn! The boys and girls made their own symmetrical pictures too and have had fun using mirrors to find the line/lines of symmetry on different shapes.

Our Digestive System

The boys and girls have been fascinated by what happens to our food after we eat it and enjoyed taking part in an experiment to find out about our digestive system. We mushed up bananas and biscuits to imagine we were chewing them in our mouths and added water for saliva. Then we added orange juice to pretend it was the acid in our stomachs, which helped to break the food down. After that we put the mixture into a pair of tights, imagining it was our small intestine getting all of the goodness out of our food. Finally our large intestine pushed the waste out to make poo! There were a lot of laughs and “eww’s” during our experiment!

We loved hearing Anna and Miral’s home made body books, with them telling us all about what they have learned. Some girls and boys even brought in some body books from home, which has helped us to learn about our digestive system and our skeletons!
