Author Event

Riddell

St Mark’s Primary was very excited to receive an invitation to attend an author event with award-winning illustrator and current Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell at Springhill Primary as part of the Scottish Friendly Children’s Book Tour.  We can’t wait!

A brief description of the event:

As Children’s Laureate, Chris is tasked with promoting children’s literature and inspiring children to read. His distinctive illustrations have won wide acclaim and he has collaborated with a wide range of authors. Chris is also an award-winning author in his own right! His well-loved book Goth Girl and the Ghost of a Mouse won the Costa Children’s Book Award in 2013.

Chris’ event will focus on the importance of illustration, creativity and imagination. He will introduce his laureateship and share pictures from his laureate log, before picking out questions from the audience, illustrating the answers. This is a fantastic opportunity for your pupils to meet and ask the laureate questions and each child whose question is picked will be presented with the illustrated answer!

Parent Councils Essentials

Parent Councils Essentials event at Calderwood Lodge on Thursday 9 June 2016

Parent Councils Essentials is fun, fast and interactive. It is a whistle-stop tour of Parent Councils – how they work, what they can get involved in and what they can’t. This session will give you lots of ideas for things you can do and help you work out the best ways to be an effective Parent Council. You’ll go away with food for thought, good contacts and ideas too.     Parent Council Essentials is one of a range of information & training sessions SPTC offers free. They have been carefully planned to provide parents with the kind of information they ask SPTC for. All SPTC sessions are run by our team of friendly and knowledgeable regional advisors, who have experience of working with parents, schools and local authorities. All parents are welcome to attend the sessions which are run in an informal, parent-friendly way with plenty of opportunities for discussion and questions. They are a great chance to learn more about how to run your group effectively and also to meet other parents and swap ideas.   Parent Council Essentials is suitable for both new and more experienced Parent Council members. The session will give you lots of ideas for running an effective Parent Council: along the way SPTC will answer some of your questions and might even bust a few of the myths surrounding parental involvement.   Here  are the links to the event on the SPTC and the event registration page which should contain most of the information you need:   http://www.sptc.info/event/parent-council-essentials-calderwood-lodge/   https://www.eventbrite.com/e/parent-council-essentials-calderwood-lodge-primary-school-g43-2ru-tickets-24591666336   If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us again by phone or email.

ERC Money Advice and Rights Team

East Renfrewshire Council’s Money Advice and Rights Team (MART) are working with St Mark’s Primary as a result of some community engagement which took place last year.  This showed that awareness of our service is low and that further assistance may be required to help apply for free school meals and clothing grants.  We have attended events at the school and ran drop-in sessions so that parents can access advice.

We are now looking for more feedback from parents on whether you would be likely to attend a further event during the summer holidays and if so what type of event you would want.

If you need assistance to complete the survey please contact 0141 577 8420 and provide MART with your contact details.
