Safety in the Park – Thursday 28th August /Vocations Mass – St Mirin’s Cathedral – Friday 19th September

Primary 7 is always a busy year and we are getting off to a flying start with our first visits out of school!
On Thursday 28th August, we shall take part in “Safety in the Park” in and around the grounds of Arthurlie House, Barrhead. This is a very worthwhile, half day event where the children will join in small group activities to highlight danger issues in areas such as traffic, fire, and internet safety.
P7a and P7b will attend 9am – 12 pm and P7c and P7d, 12pm – 3.00pm. We will travel by coach.
On Friday 19th September our Primary 7 children will be joining other Primary Schools in St Mirin’s Cathedral, Paisley to celebrate the annual Vocations Mass with Bishop John Keenan.
We shall leave the school 10am and return at 12.30pm.

SWIMMING LESSONS – Primary 4

 As part of our Health and Wellbeing Programme, Primary 4 children will be taking part in swimming sessions at Eastwood Baths on the following dates

Class Dates – Tuesdays Times
P4a 2nd September, 9th September, 16th September Leaving the school at 9.45am (Children will be in the pool from 10.15 to 10.45).
P4b 2nd September, 9th September, 16th September Leaving the school at 10.15am (Children will be in the pool from 10.45 – 11.15)
P4c 23rd September, 30th September, 7th October Leaving the school at 9.45am (Children will be in the pool from 10.15 to 10.45).
P4d 23rd September, 30th September, 7th October Leaving the school at 10.15am (Children will be in the pool from 10.45 – 11.15)
  • The children will walk to the baths accompanied by members of staff
  • Children should bring appropriate kit for swimming – costume, trunks, towel, verruca sock (if needed) etc. and should wear warm clothing for the walk.
  • There is no charge
  • Any parent with East Renfrewshire Disclosure Scotland who would like to accompany us, please tick the box and return the tear off slip only if you are able to assist.

P7 – Lockerbie Manor – Parents’ Meeting

TUESDAY 9th SEPTEMBER 2014
School Hall 6.30pm – 7.30pm
I would like to invite you to a meeting on the 9th September to finalise arrangements forLockerbie Manor.
The children are getting very excited about the trip and have endless questions for us!
There will be an opportunity to look again at the programme and
 you will be required to sign a consent form for the activities.
Copies of the kit list will be available
Important contact information will be given
If your child requires medication whilst we are away, please let me know on the evening
This meeting is just for parents but if you would have difficulty in attending without your child, please come along together. If you are unable to attend the meeting please let me know below and I will forward information.
If you have any particular questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me for a chat.
Tea / coffee will be provided before the meeting.  Please complete the tear off slip below and return to school.
The total cost of the trip is £235 and must be paid by Friday 29TH August

Sports Day

Leavers’ Mass – Leavers’ Ceilidh

Leavers’ Mass – St Joseph’s Church –  Tuesday 17th  June – 7pm

  • Children should wear shirt and tie
  • Children should be seated by 6.50pm
  • The children will sit in the first 10 rows on the right hand side of the church. Parents and families are welcome to sit anywhere else.
  • At the end of Mass the children will be presented with a gift from the PSA

Leaver’s Ceilidh – Monday 23rd June  – 7pm – 9pm

  • Children should come at 6.45pm to be piped into the hall.
  • Parents should stay in Mensa and form a Guard of Honour.
  • Parents should return at 9pm when the children will sing their songs of farewell.
  • The Year Book and a DVD of their adventures at Ardentinny will be on sale after the ceilidh at a cost of £5 in the Mensa.

Cashless CafeteriaAll leavers should please remember to spend all reaming monies on their cashless catering card. If they have a balance of £5 or over they can move the money to an account belonging to their brother/sister. They should tell their teacher if they wish to do this

If it rains heavily on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, Sports Day will be moved indoors and unfortunately there will be no room for spectators

Bannockburn P5

As part of the Primary 5 Environmental Studies programme on the Scottish Wars of Independence, we have arranged a visit to Bannockburn. The children will take part in a workshop at Bannockburn Heritage Centre .
The classes will leave from school at 9.00am, accompanied by members of staff and return at 3.00pm.
There is a shop in the centre and we would recommend a maximum of £2, should you wish your child to purchase a souvenir.
The cost for the trip is £6, to include bus and workshop. The PSA will subsidise the remainder of the cost.
Please return the tear off slip with the payment.
.School uniform should be worn, including outdoor clothing suitable for weather conditions

As part of our term 3 topic ‘The Local Area,’ we have arranged a visit to our original school home, Holmwood House in Cathcart, where we will be looking at the flora and the fauna in the grounds.
On our visit, the children will take part in activities in Holmwood House itself and also in the surrounding grounds.
Buses will leave school at 9.30 and return at 2.45.
Children should come to school dressed appropriately for the weather and outdoor activities
Children should bring a packed lunch, labelled and in a plastic bag for ease of disposal
Cost of the trip is £1 towards transport, the remainder being subsidised by the P.S.A.
There is a shop in the house and if you wish your child to buy a small souvenir, we would recommend a maximum of £2
If there are any changes to medical conditions / medications from the medical consent form you completed at the beginning of this session, please inform the school office

Health Week – Monday 19th May – Wednesday 21st May

Next week is our annual Health Week in the school.  A number of activities have been planned including cookery demonstrations, electrical safety talks, a visit from a farmer and the “Riderz Stunt Team” to name just a few.  It would be very helpful if your child had their P.E kit and a full water bottle at school on these days. Primary 1 Visit to Giffnock Library

We would like to walk our Primary 1 classes to Giffnock Library on the above dates (weather permitting).
We will use the emergency information provided on the Medical Consent Form submitted at the start of the year. Please inform school office of any changes.
We would be delighted to have parents with a PVG / East Renfrewshire Disclosure to accompany us.

P6 Visit to the Glasgow Museum of Religious Life

 P6a     Tuesday 3rd June

We have arranged a visit to the Glasgow Museum of Religious Life to take part in an introduction to the museum and to world faiths with a specific focus on Islam. We shall also visit Glasgow Cathedral.
Weather permitting, we hope to walk around the grounds of the Cathedral and the Necropolis.
The children will leave the school by coach at 9:30 am and return at 3.00pm.

Packed lunch required
Cost of trip is £4, towards the cost of transport and a donation to the Cathedral, the remainder being subsidised by the P.S.A.
There are small gift shops at the venues, if you wish your child to buy a souvenir we would recommend a maximum of £2

‘Give Me Cycle Space’ The Riderz

East Renfrewshire is backing the nationwide Give Me Cycle Space campaign and as part of the programme, primary pupils have been treated to a stunning display of riding from one of the country’s top stunt teams.
We are delighted the Give Me Cycle Space campaign and The Riderz have been visiting East Renfrewshire, not only to pass on sound safety advice but also to entertain the young people with daredevil cycle stunts.”
The RIDERZ will be visiting our school on Tuesday 20th May and we ask that ALL the children in Primary 6 who are taking part in BIKEABILTY bring their bikes to school on that day.
