P7 Leavers’ Mass

The leavers Mass is the last spiritual event for our P7 pupils to come together and celebrate what has always been an uplifting experience before they move to secondary. In order to ascertain numbers we would ask you to complete the form below so we can purchase the appropriate number of bibles and other holy books to be given to the pupils on the night.

PSA Meeting

Dear Parents

The PSA meeting takes place tonight at 6.30pm in the St Ninian’s staff room. All parents welcome. Main item on the agenda will be planning for the Summer Fete which takes place on Saturday 2nd June. We will require lots of volunteers on the day, so please come along!

 

If you can’t make the meeting don’t worry. Please complete the attached survey and let us know when you can help. We’ve had a great response from volunteers for the musical bumps world record attempt, and the international day, so let’s keep us this great level of support.

International day – Sunday 2-4.30 – need to know!

Hope you will join us on Sunday – here’s what you need to know!

  1.   what’s on – see our exciting programme here  – food, music, dance, sport, crafts…it’s all covered and (thanks to the National Lottery) it’s all free! This is a family event so please ensure children have an adult present (unless helping with the event via the school)

  1. say hello to the many olm families who have stalls in the junior dept – they have gone to so much effort to share their country and culture with you, Younger children can get their OLM passport stamped if they learn how to say hello!

4.dress up in national costume / colours if you fancy it

  1. stay for the big parade at 4/ 415 – if you have a shaker / bells / drums at home, bring them (or make them) so the kids can make a noise! (there will be some at school but not enough for everyone)

Welcome to OLM International Day – here’s the run down!

 

  • 2.10 and 3.30 – 15 min Bollywood dance taster – join in (Main  gym)
  • 2- 4 OLM Big Picnic plus tea / coffee / juice   
  • 2.30 to 3.30 – OLM showcase – performances by children (main gym)
  • 3.30 – 4 – traditional Scottish / Irish music showcase (Junior gym)
  • 2 to 3.30 – Make your own pakora drop in (STEM room jr dept)
  • 2 – 4 – Family stalls from Poland, Pakistan , Ukraine, Cameroon, India, Mexico, Bolivia, Italy, Scotland, Ireland and Mauritius (junior  gym)  – including henna hand painting
  • 2-4 – International arts and crafts and face painting flags (mensa)
  • 2-4 – Pupil games stalls (link corridor)
  • 2- 4.30 – Class displays link corridor
  • 2- 4 – Sports (junior playground) – Round the world sports challenge (winner in each age group); World cup fastest kick (how fast are you?); Gaelic football and cricket tasters from Tir Conaill and East Renfrewshire Cricket Club
  • 4.15 Grand Parade – a parade of children in national colours and costumes –  gather  4/4.10 (junior playground). Thank you to the National Lottery for funding this event

For Attention of Parents of International Day Performers

All performers for International Day should be dropped off to primary 3c at 2.15 to allow us to take a register.  The performance starts at 2.30pm. Parents should make their way to the main gym hall after dropping off where you will be able to enjoy the performances.   After the performances are over, you may take your child from the main gym hall.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NOT A REHEARSAL ON FRIDAY

Children can wear anything on the day and of course are very welcome to wear national dress (from any country) or a country’s football top.  If not, children can simply wear something they are comfortable in.

The children are very excited and have worked hard to showcase their celebration of International Day.

The school community would like to thank you for your support in bringing this special day together.

OLM International Day – Food – Round the World Big Picnic!

Preparations are in full swing for our International Day on Sunday 29th April, it’s shaping up to be a very exciting event!

A special part of our day will be a ‘Big Picnic’ – a variety of different foods from around the world representing the cultures we share to sample on the day.

Please do take part in our Big Picnic if you can by bringing along a (nut free) sharing plate or dish of food  – sweet or savoury, home made or shop bought – representing a particular country.

If you are a budding Nigella, we would love some tasty authentic dishes. But for the non-cooks,  don’t worry, it doesn’t need to be fancy (or even home made), just something representing the country of your choice (eg shortbread for Scotland!). It’s all about sharing, however we do it.

Food hygiene/safety is our number one priority, so if you can help by bringing some food along, please bear in mind the following guidance:

  • Please do NOT bring any foods that include nuts/ nut substances. Also dishes with raw eggs, fresh cream should be avoided.
  • Food can be brought in at the start of the event at 2pm, or at any point during the afternoon . Please bring to the junior dept dining area when you arrive.
  • Please bring food which is ready to eat  – whether (freshly) hot or cold (we have no facilities to heat up or keep warm)
  • Ideally please use disposable plates/bowls, and cover your dish with tinfoil/clingfilm. However if you want to use a non-disposable plate please label this with your name, and your child’s name and class, and collect it before you leave.
  • Please clearly label the food (including ingredients) on each plate so children and parents can make informed choices and avoid foods which could cause an allergic reaction. There will be more guidance on the web site regarding allergens but the main allergens are listed at the end of this note for info.  Labels can be simple eg a ‘flag’ made with a cocktail stick and a sticky label stating ingredients or whatever is easiest!
  • serving utensils, cutlery etc will all be provided unless you need something specific.

International Day – FREE event – 2-4.30 Sunday 29th April

INTERNATIONAL DAY

2-4.30 pm Sunday 29th April

Please come along to our International Day – a free event to celebrate the diversity of our wonderful school community. We are delighted to be funded by (and give a huge thank you for) our “Big Lottery Celebrate” grant…. so the whole event won’t cost you a penny!

You’ll find something for all the family including…

  • OLM round the world showcase – music, dance and poetry, including dance from Scotland, Ireland and India
  • Our “OLM Big Picnic” for families to share food from their own cultures (more info to follow)
  • Bollywood dance tasters – for all to enjoy
  • Family stalls from countries all over the world sharing pictures, memorabilia and food tasters
  • “Make your own pakora” drop in session
  • Displays created by children in school
  • Art and craft activities from across the globe
  • Henna hand painting and flag face painting
  • International passport – stamped with all the countries you visit
  • International quiz and word searches
  • Round the world relay course
  • Sports tasters including Gaelic football, cricket and shinty
  • Fantastic grand parade led by piper and drummer to show off our amazing national costumes – making as much noise as possible with shakers and drums

If you can / want to, please dress in something showing your heritage or national colours  (whether it’s a football top or a fez) to make the day as colourful as possible.

Please note some activities will be timed – please check the web site before you come if there is something you don’t want to miss.

World record to go – countdown to 11 am tomorrow!

One more sleep and we will all be together tomorrow morning to break the world record for musical bumps. We are all so excited – not only is this a unique opportunity to become record holders but a rare chance for the whole school to be together.

Please encourage the children to do their best and keep in good spirits no matter if and when they are “out” of the game – there can only be one official winner on the day but as we all know, all the children taking part are winners and will be record holders if we succeed!

You are welcome to watch tomorrow  – the attempt should start at 11 – but please note

  • no one other than children, staff and official helpers can be inside the pitch area
  • for various reasons, we do not wish photographs or video to be taken tomorrow unless these feature only your child or are long range. We will publish selected pictures etc as soon as we can – we have extensive filming obligations to Guinness and will have a fantastic record of the day!

Let’s go for it tomorrow – it will be a great day!
