The National Youth Choir of Scotland is currently looking to recruit new members for the National Boys Choir. Several of our current and former pupils have been successful in gaining a place in the choir in previous years (one of our P7 boys even features in the promotional leaflet!) and they have found it an interesting and rewarding experience. For more information and application form go to www.nycos.co.uk

Application deadline is November 15th

Massage in Schools Programme P7b

We are planning to introduce the Massage in Schools programme into your child’s class. This programme has already been successfully introduced into many schools in Scotland.
The Massage in Schools programme involves teaching the children a series of simple massage strokes, which they practise on each other, working in pairs. They always ask permission from each other first. The massage programme is carried out fully clothed in the classroom and is built into the classroom routine.
Some of the benefits of the programme have been shown to include decreased aggression, increased concentration and increased self-esteem. Another benefit is that children might want to practise on willing family members!
The training sessions will be led by Carolynne McKendry, a Health and Wellbeing Development Officer with East Renfrewshire Council.

Christmas Shopping

With Christmas now approaching, I am sure many of you are starting to think about Christmas Shopping. This year, while doing your shopping, you can also raise money for the school.

By using the Easy Fundraising website, you can make purchases from many retailers, including John Lewis, Argos, Debenhams and Tesco, and the school will receive a donation for each purchase you make!

It will not cost you any extra, but the money raised will be used by the PSA to fund various activities and events in the school.

It’s quick and easy to register. Go to www.easyfundraising.org.uk<http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk> and then search for ‘Our Lady of the Missions’. You will need to set up an account with a user name and password. If you previously registered when your children were at Glenwood, you will get a message confirming you have changed your chosen beneficiary.

Please ask family members / friends to consider shopping via the website too – the more money we can raise, the more we can do for your children here in the school.

Thank you

From Our Lady of the Missions PSA

Primary 1 Blending Information

Word Box Sheet
Please use these groups of words with your child each night to develop their skill of blending (sounding out).

For example:

sat
. . .

duck
. .   .

When a dot is placed under the letter your child should say that letter sound or joint sound (ai, ee, ie, ck, oa etc.), repeat the sounds slowly until they can successfully say the word.

Please note these words have not to be learned. The aim of these is to develop the skill of blending using the sounds they know, rather than developing visual memory.

Your child will receive a new word box sheet every 6 weeks.
