Parental Involvement and Engagement Census
East Renfrewshire Council and its educational establishments undertake regular periodic surveys of parents and carers. Such surveys support school and local authority improvement planning and provide an opportunity for parents to share their thoughts on current and future involvement and engagement with schools.
Similar practice is undertaken by all local authorities in Scotland and educational establishments under their control. In order to rationalise this approach to surveying parents/carers and in order to allow comparable consistent data to be collected nationally, which will assist in evaluating the impact of interventions and programmes and support future policy development, every parent/carer of a school pupil in Scotland is being invited to take part in the national Parental Involvement and Engagement Census.
Only one parent/carer per child will receive an email which will include a link to the survey and it is only necessary to complete the survey once per family, per school. The survey should take no longer than ten minutes to complete. The survey will open on Monday 31st January and close on Monday 28th February 2022.
The data gathered will be used for statistical and research purposes and will provide East Renfrewshire Council and its schools with information to help:
- plan, monitor and deliver better policies for the benefit of all,
- identify and share best practice,
- better understand some of the factors which influence parental involvement and engagement with our schools,
- further enhance positive relationships with parents to secure positive outcomes for our children.
The information collected will also be securely shared with the Scottish Government to assist in evaluating the impact of national interventions and programmes and to support future policy development at a national level.

Free Bus Travel for Young People in Scotland
This is an update regarding information on the rollout of free bus travel for all children and young people aged between 5 and 21 years old.
As part of the national campaign to encourage participation and ensure children and young people are able to benefit, we have been asked to promote the application process through our schools and nurseries. To make it as simple as possible, applications can be made by parents or carers through Parentsportal using the existing contact information.

If your child would like a Christmas lunch, please complete this form by Friday 10th December. Please complete one form per child.
If you pay for your child’s lunch, please ensure there are sufficient funds to cover lunch. Cost is £2.10.
ERCLT Sports Classes now available
East Renfrewshire Culture & Leisure are delighted to announce that their 2nd block of sports classes is due to restart Monday 6th December until Sunday 13th March and there is still plenty of time to join in.
They have a range of sports classes available including gymnastics, football, netball and lots more. They are also delighted to have the return of our badminton classes this block.

If the class you would like to join is fully booked, please add your name to the waiting list so that they know you would like to join. The waiting lists are monitored daily and will add more classes to the programme where possible. All sports classes run in blocks which must be booked and paid for in advance.

Literacy Library for Parents
The ‘Literacy Library’ is a resource for parents to access which will give advice on supporting children at home. There are leaflets, videos, links to online resources and links to adult learning.

‘Touch of Tartan’ & Donations for PSA Tombola
Pupils can come to school wearing a ‘touch of tartan’ (scarf, tie, hair accessory, brooch/badge, kilt, skirt etc) to celebrate St. Andrews Day on Tuesday 30th November. Pupils will also enjoy some shortbread courtesy of the PSA – thank you!
We are collecting bottle donations (anything that comes in a bottle!) for the PSA Tombola which will be drawn on Saturday 4th December at the outdoor P7 Christmas Market. These donations can be made at the main entrance to the school – signs will mark the drop-off zone and a member of the office team will man this at the beginning and end of the day on Tuesday.
East Renfrewshire larder Foodbank Collection for St. Andrews Day
As part of our St. Andrews day celebrations the Parent Council is working with Pupil Council to collect items for East Renfrewshire Larder Foodbank.
This is a very busy Foodbank who provide a large number of families with essential items.
We are proud to have previously supported them during our blazer swap and our donations were greatly appreciated. There is a list of the items the food bank requires to make up parcels.
They are particularly short of household cleaning items and breakfast items, but a wide variety of items is required also.
Pupils can bring an item into school on Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th and the items will be collected from the school.
Your support in this is greatly appreciated.

Adverse Weather Contingency Plan
As we come into more wintry weather conditions, we would like to outline the arrangements we have put into place should the weather conditions become extreme.
Should there be a snowfall our janitors will clear a path from the main car park to the front door of each of the buildings and the stairs leading from the main building up to the junior department will also be cleared.
The path to the rear of the school leading up to Glenwood Nursery will not be cleared by the school’s janitorial staff.
During periods of severe adverse weather the Council will endeavour to do everything in its power to ensure that schools remain open. However, should our school require to be closed, as much notice as possible will be given to parents. This may take the form of an email, text message and/or a notice on the homepage of the school website.
East Renfrewshire Council’s official website will also contain up to date information regarding the impact of the adverse weather conditions on Council services including schools.
Should the school require to be closed during the course of a school day; no child will be allowed to make their way home unsupervised. Parents, having been contacted by text, will be expected to make arrangements for pupils to be collected from the school. If you have recently changed any of your contact details, please inform the school.
Pupils who normally travel by school bus will be escorted to buses by school staff provided that this service is still operational, otherwise the children will remain in school until collected by an adult.

Art and Wellbeing Class (5-12 years) –Tuesday 4-5.30pm, Fairweather Hall, Starts Tuesday 2nd November 2021
These classes are aimed at children looking to engage in art for their wellbeing and to explore their feelings through creativity and imagination. Touching upon art therapy techniques, children will participate in a combination of self-directed art-making and creative activities led by our tutor, using a variety of materials that will allow them to express themselves and get creative in a friendly and sociable environment.
Please note: whilst led by a qualified Art Therapist, these are not Art Therapy sessions. Materials are provided for this session, but you may also wish to bring your own.
