Halal Menu
Last year several forums were held to collect views of primary pupils and parents about school food and menus. Outcomes developed from the findings have resulted in a successful pilot scheme offering halal options mirroring the existing menu and as a result the provision is now being offered to additional schools for pupils to access.
To facilitate this option it is possible to utilise the cashless catering system to allow your child to pick a halal option from the menu daily.
At present the classroom smart board system offers the school lunch choices of food from the regular menu. Your child opens his/her account and presses their choice; this information is electronically passed to the kitchen and your child receives a band denoting their choice prior to lunch time. Any personal information e.g. allergens, medical diets or special diets are highlighted at kitchen level for an individual child and adjustments can be made accordingly. Before lunch each child is issued a coloured band dependant on their choice and this allows the catering staff to serve the appropriate lunch to all pupils.
It is possible to replicate many of the menu items with a halal option, e.g. lasagne would have lamb (halal) mince in the recipe replacing the beef mince from the regular menu. This would allow the catering staff to ensure your child would receive the appropriate meal of their choice daily.
To safeguard these choices each child wishing to participate in this option should be registered by their parent or guardian by returning the attached pro-forma to your child’s school by the 25th April 2018
School will acknowledge receipt of your registration, however parents must explain to their child that they have been registered and they will always be in receipt of a green band to guarantee their lunch choice. The school daily menus are available to view on the school website. The Halal menu will start as of Week commencing 30th April 2018
