Dear Parent Forum Member,
At The Annual General Meeting of the Parent Council last year there was a significant increase of new parents, this was extremely welcome and new members have made a very valuable contribution this session (thank you!)
The constitution requires that all prospective members must attend the AGM to nominate themselves. Existing members also need to re-join every year.
The constitution suggests that if there are over 25 nominations, the head teacher is in a position to select – ‘a group which fairly represents the composite of the school,’ from the nominations.
Whilst we hope this will not happen – as we would rather welcome everyone who wants to become involved, if numbers self-nominating exceed a viable working group of 25 parents / carers then the following procedure will follow with the aim of ensuring continuity and breadth of representation.
There will be a proforma for self nomination available to be completed at the meeting with a small number of categories / areas of interest, directly related to you and your children who attend Our Lady of the Missions Primary School e.g.
- Are you an existing member of more than two years standing?
- At which stages are your child (ren) at present?
- Do you have a particular voice with regard to Additional Support Needs?
- Do you have a particular interest/experience with regard to English as an Additional Language?
- Do you have a particular interest/experience with regard to any other groups?
The head teacher would then select from each category in a random manner ensuring that the new Parent Council for session 2013-14 fairly represents a cross section of the parent forum working on behalf of all 820 pupils. This will be done anonymously by putting the names under each category into a secret ballot and selecting 7 returning members, 14 members – two per stage, 2 members representing ASN issues, 2 members representing EAL issues.
If any parent would like further information on this process or joining the Parent Council at the AGM on Thursday evening 19th September at 7.00pm, please do not hesitate to contact the head teacher.
Best Regards
Charlie Jamieson
