Primary 7 Diary of Events May – June 2013

Congratulations to the children who received the Sacrament of Confirmation last week, their singing was superb and they led us in a very prayerful manner. My thanks to Archbishop Tartaglia, Fr. David Boyd and Fr. Jim Duggan for two beautiful services. Thanks also to all Primary 7 staff for preparing the children so well.
In keeping with the year so far, P7 has an action packed summer term! Please take note of the following dates for your diary.
Thursday 2nd May
Please remember that the Information Evening meeting for pupils transferring to St Ninian’s High School in August 2013 will take place at 7.15pm in St Ninian’s.  The evening is open to parents and their child and there will be an opportunity to meet staff and find out about the S1 curriculum. The results of any placing requests will be known by this time. 
Yesterday we welcomed Mr. Kenny Ross DHT from St. Ninian’s who will be head of 1st year in August. He met with the classes at an assembly.
Thursday 9th May                                                                                                   Ascension Thursday
Weather permitting, we shall join with P5 and P6 in walking to St. Vincent’s Church for 10am Mass, leaving school at 9.30am. Parent helpers with an East Renfrewshire/PVG Disclosure are welcome to join us. Please indicate on the return slip.
Friday 17th May
We look forward to welcoming Mr Ken Macintosh MSP who will visit Primary 7 prior to our trip to the Scottish Parliament in June.
Thursday 23rd May                                                                                          St. Ninian’s High School   
Children transferring to St. Ninian’s will spend the whole day in St Ninian’s. Classes will leave school at 9am and return at 3pm.
PE Kit to be worn to school: school polo shirt, dark shorts, joggers + trainers. Suitable outdoor jacket for weather conditions on the day.
Thursday 30th May                                                                              Mass in St. Andrew’s Cathedral
We shall join with schools in the South Deanery of Glasgow Archdiocese for a Celebration Mass with Archbishop Tartaglia at 10.30am in St. Andrew’s Cathedral, Clyde St.Glasgow. Full school uniform, black shoes please.
Parent helpers with an East Renfrewshire/PVG Disclosure are welcome to join us. Please indicate on the return slip.
Monday 10th June                                                                                                  Scottish Parliament
Visit to Scottish Parliament Edinburgh, which will include a tour of the Debating Chamber, a presentation from the Education Service. We shall walk up the Royal Mile and we hope to make a short visit to the original Scottish Parliament.

  • Full school uniform, shirt and tie, black shoes to be worn.
  • Cost, £5 to cover transport
  • If you wish your child to buy a souvenir we suggest £2 max to spend in shop,
  • Packed lunch in a disposable bag
  • Parent helpers welcome, please complete tear off slip attached
  • Return to school 5.45 pm

 Monday 17th June   Leavers’ Mass                                         St. Joseph’s Church Clarkston 7pm
This is our Primary 7 “Graduation” celebration for all children. It is always a very moving occasion, especially for those families for whom this will be their last contact with Our Lady of the Missions School. After mass, children will be presented with a Bible or Koran from our PSA.
Thursday 20th June                                                                                                              Sports Day
Primary 7s final sports day. We hope the sun shines on us. Sports for the upper school begin at 1.00pm.
Monday 24th June                                                 Leavers’ Ceilidh             6.45 – 9.00 School Hall
Our final celebration is our ceilidh! The children will be piped into the hall and we ask all parents to come to the mensa/playground to form a Guard of Honour at 6.45pm to welcome the children. At the end of the ceildh, parents are invited into the hall when the children will sing their farewell songs!
