Father’s Day Competition

As a loyal education customer with Waterstones, Newton Mearns, we thought you might be interested in our National Poster competition for children to design the posters for our Father’s Day promotion. The brief is simple: the kids have to design a picture of them and their father/father figure/person they’ll be treating this father’s day, and the winner sees their image used in bookstores across the country. Not only that, but they get a £20 voucher to spend in Waterstones on books. Which might mean they pick that perfect Father’s Day gift – – or perhaps something for themselves! We are attaching copies of the entry form for any interested parties. These must be handed to the store by the closing date. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us! And please feel free to pass this on to anyone you think may be interested, too!

The fine print:

  • All entries must be received by 5pm on Monday 21st April 2014
  • Only one entry per person is allowed
  • Entrants must be aged 10 or under on 21st April 2014 and have the permission of a parent or guardian
  • Entry forms must be completed by the entrant and his or her parent or guardian who must supply contact details. Only correctly completed entry forms will be accepted, no other method of entry is permitted. Contact details will only be used to contact entrants if necessary and will not be shared with other companies
  • Winner(s) will be chosen within 14 working days of the closing date and will be contacted as soon as possible afterwards.
  • The winner(s) will receive a £20 (or € equivalent)Waterstones Gift Card and their drawing may be used in publicity, POS, marketing or other literature in our shops, online or otherwise We also thought that libraries and schools might be interested in our Children’s Book of the Month. Oksa Pollock and the Last Hope is the French riposte to Harry Potter, with a young girl discovering not only her incredible magic powers, but also realising her destiny is far greater than anything she could have dreamed of. Its a brilliant adventure for 9-12 readers, and indeed, any adults who like a bit of magic in their reading. Copies are in store now and are selling like hotcakes! We think it might be the perfect addition to any school library!

With many thanks, and we look forward to seeing some of your pupil’s artistic endeavours!

    Burns Singing Competition Success

On Monday 10 March, three children from Primary 5 travelled to Paisley to take part in the 2014 Regional Primary Schools Competition run by the Renfrewshire Association of Burns Clubs (RIABC).  They all sang really well and Myles  was presented with a medal after being placed second in the Primary 4 and 5 singing category for his rendition of Ye Jacobites by Name.  Megan was Highly Commended in the same section she and Hannah received certificates for their performances.

Thanks to Mrs Shand for taking the children to the competition.
