We have finished our guided readers and are excited to begin our new books next week!

In maths, the fantastic fractions have been completing time word problems and also learning about the properties of triangles! We look forward to learning more about this next week.

The excellent equations have been learning how to calculate the area and perimeter of different shapes. This has been a bit tricky but we are making excellent progress.

The super subtractions have been looking at more complicated function machines and doing a fantastic job.

Today, we were lucky enough to have Mrs Parker (Oscar’s mum) come into school and take us for drama. We learned how to project our voice, follow opposite instructions and create stories using only props and our imaginations! We came up with extraordinary stories 🙂

P5A Class Blog 4th November

The orange group have been using the formula A=LxB to work out the area of squares and rectangles. They have also been using cubes to make rectangles and squares with the same area but different perimeter.

The Pink Group have been doing data analysis. They have studied pictograms, bar charts and line graphs.  Today they began their own survey too.

The Yellow group have started learning about 3D shapes. They made some cubes using nets of shapes.

In P.E we have started football. We talked about the rules of football and played a game.

A new music teacher, Mr. Crocket came in to teach us music. We played some games and did some singing.

We did drama today (Friday) with Mrs. Parker who has her own drama company.

In maths, the super subtractions have been learning about function machines and how to work out unknown values. The excellent equations have been learning how to calculate the perimeter of different shapes. The fantastic fractions have been learning about data handling and time. The whole class have also been learning how to carry out more complicated forms of vertical calculations. We have all been making excellent progress!

We are also entering a Christmas card competition and are excited to see our finished designs!

In language, we did structured writing and everybody wrote fantastic descriptions of a spooky house.

Blog

This week Primary 5 were lucky enough to visit Chris Riddell at Eastwood High School. Chris Riddell is a famous illustrator and author and is the children’s Laureate. Chris Riddell drew lots of pictures in front of us and made it look so easy! He drew pictures of cycling fishes, ugly men with big noses, fairy princesses and lots of different monsters. Chris Riddell illustrated the answer to lots of our questions which was very exciting. We were also given the chance to get our books signed by Chris Riddell or buy signed copies of his most popular books.

In maths we learned about BODMAS, rounding and probability. We also got to do more of our Titanic topic. We built more of our cabins and wrote exciting postcards from the Titanic which we got to stain with tea in order to make them look authentic.

It was a great week!

We have been doing more work on our Titanic cabins and we are excited to report that they are nearly finished! We have been having a debate in class regarding who is to blame for the sinking of the Titanic. This has been an excellent opportunity to explore different views and express our opinions.
