Cluster K’Nex

Today saw four of our pupils compete in the Cluster K’Nex challenge, taking on teams from the other schools.  The pupils had to work effectively as a team to design and build a crane.  After much hard work and dextrous manufacture, the team of Jennifer and Erin (P6) triumphed and will now go on to represent the Cluster at the Regional Final.

Well done girls we are extremely proud of you!

“This was our first competition.  Our crane was really strong and we worked really well as a team.  We ended up winning the event and are really excited to be going to the Regional Challenge!”

Samuel and Cameron also competed.  We are very proud of their efforts too, the model looks great!

“We really enjoyed working together.  We built a crane with rope and K’Nex.  The design was like a digger, with a crane attachment.  It was a fantastic afternoon!”

The Force Awakens…. For STEM Week!

STEM Week was launched with full force this morning, unveiling this years theme………….Star Wars!

At our whole school assembly, Mrs McLean introduced the theme and the various challenges for the week.  The pupils were played a video message from Darth Vader and were surprised by a visit from two of the movies characters.

Excitement reached fever pitch!  Our thanks must go to the UKGarrison for supporting our launch.

Keep your eyes peeled on the school website and class blogs for updates across the week.

May the force be with us!!

Google Expeditions

What a fantastic experience for our P4 and P5 pupils this afternoon, supported by Colin from Google.  The pupils were able to explore the universe and The Great Barrier Reef using Google Cardboard virtual reality viewers.  From the oohs and aaghs that filled the room a great time was had by all!

On Monday 19th December, the Google team will be visiting Busby Primary to work with our Primary 4 and Primary 5 pupils.  They will bring with them all the technology necessary to allow the pupils to explore our universe in ways we cannot normally achieve.

As part of the science work being undertaken in school, the classes are looking at Space. To this end, we have selected “Expeditions” relevant to this context.  Our P5 pupils will have the opportunity to get out into our Solar System to explore the various planets and the Sun, whilst our P4 pupils will suit up for a mission to the moon, all within the confines of their own classroom.

We are sure you will agree that this is an opportunity not to be missed, and are certain that the experience will be one the pupils will remember for a long time.

STEMM Week

The week beginning 16th March was our annual STEMM week – we added an extra ‘M’ for Medicine! It was a fabulous week with trips to the Snow Zone and the Museum of Rural Life. We showcased our work in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths from the year. We also had parents leading workshops, alongside STEM ambassadors and business partners. The week finished with our STEMM Fayre where parents and families could try out experiments, maths puzzles and engineering problems for themselves. Feedback was highly positive and we hope you learned something new.

Busby STEM Week

Next week we are holding our annual STEM week. All the children are looking forward to exploring and experimenting. Our Science Fayre will be on Friday the 28th March from 1.30pm. Please come along and try out some of the workshops for yourself. Click here for further details of next week’s events. We would like to thank the Parent Council for supporting us to put on many of these events.
