Observation and mapping skills

What a difference a week makes! The weather was beautiful today with the sun splitting the skies and the rain staying away for most of the morning.

We started off the session by taking part in an activity to improve our observation skills and it was great that we could use our hi-tech clipboards that we made last week too!

After that we played some mapping games where we learned the importance of identifying where north is and holding our maps the correct way round.

Finally we worked on creating some of our own games. Mrs Kelly was really impressed with how we came up with games to develop some of the learning we are doing in class on triangles. Aaminah and Charlotte were key in coming up with the idea of the  game and Lewis and Dylan did really well with the practical organisation of the resources. Mrs Kelly also loved the idea of one of our games which will develop our mapping skills a bit further and is going to create some maps for us to use next week so that we can play our game fully.

All in all a marvellous day, and as Leah said, “we are not just doing outdoor learning, we learning about so many other things outside too.”

Outdoor learning

What a day for our first outdoor learning session with Mrs Kelly! We got absolutely drenched but thankfully our waterproofs protected us and we dried off pretty quickly once we were inside again!

Here are some photos of us working in teams solving a problem Mrs Kelly set for us. We used skills in estimating length  to start of then moved on to logic and mental maths skills. Most of all we showed amazing resilience sticking at the problem despite the torrential rain. A brilliant first outdoor learning session! Well done everyone. 👍😊

And here is a wee video to let you see how the weather treated us today. Click on the blue words : A bit of rain
