Visit from R-CADE 🎮

Today was our last day of coding. We had some visitors from                     R-CADE who came into our class to look at our games and they brought us some of there  80’s and 90’s vintage technology. All the games that they brought to show us were very old but it still worked really well. They came in and told us all about coding, and how and were they worked in coding. There were so many different types of games, like, Pac-Man, A small motor ran tennis game, Two vintage VR’s, with one showing tanks, and the other showing race cars. We really enjoyed our coding block overall, and we hope we could do it again in the future.

Coding 📱🎮

This week we have been continuing with the coding pathway in Mearns Masters where the class are creating an adventure game using Scratch.

As well as coding our adventure games, some children have been exploring robotics and using their coding skills with the Lego Spike!

Live Debate with Giffnock Primary 📖🙅🏽‍♂️🙋🏼‍♀️

For our final week of Mearns Masters, the class participated in a live debate with a Primary 7 class from Giffnock Primary. The motions were all to do with ways of encouraging people to stop smoking i.e. to raise the price of nicotine products or to stop advertising nicotine products on social media.

After three excellent debates, Mrs Kennedy and the Depute Head Teacher from Giffnock gave both classes some feedback on their debates. The other Primary 7 class from Giffnock were the judges and voted Mearns Primary the winners!!

Mearns Masters Debating 👩🏽‍🏫📋

After completing our research on how damaging smoking cigarettes and e-cigarettes can be on the body, we came up with some topics to debate around this.

We looked at the format of debating and how it is structured so we could have a mini class debate around the topic of smoking. There was lots of excellent persuasive vocabulary being used and the class were able to think quickly on their feet when asked questions about any points that were made.

Mearns Masters

Our first Mearns Masters pathway in Primary 7 is The Campaigners! Our campaign is to try and make children and adults more aware of the dangers that smoking cigarettes and e-cigarettes can have on our bodies so we can live a healthy life.

We started off by exploring and researching the effects that smoking has on the body. We also looked into the types of first aid we can use if something more fatal happens as a result of smoking i.e. heart attack or stroke.

In groups we showcased our learning  through creating our own videos!

Gastronomers Showcase Event 🎉

Today we hosted our Mexican Fiesta showcase in the library which we transformed into a restaurant!

The class was split into groups with each making either tacos, enchiladas or Mocktails.

We used the skills that we have developed over the 6 weeks to cook our food and worked together to present our finished dishes.

We had a great time trying the food, hosting our special guests, listening to Mexican music and wearing our moustaches 🎉

Margarita Mocktails 🇲🇽

Today our whole class went up to the kitchen to create our very own Mexican inspired mocktails.

We used lime cordial, soda water, ice, syrup, orange juice, sugar and salt to make our drinks 🍋

We then blended our mixture together to create a slush like texture and used lime to line our glasses and mixed the top of the glass in sugar and salt to make the garnish 🧂

Cheers 🍹

Gastronomers Group 2

Today Group 2 of our Gastronomers made our vegetarian enchiladas in the kitchen. We enjoyed preparing the vegetables, packing up our mixture in tortilla parcels and baking them in the oven with cheese!

Next week our whole class will be making some Mexican themed Mocktails – we can’t wait!
