Our S3 Music course is designed to allow pupils to develop their skills on 2 or 3 instruments of their choice.  This is where pupils often really become a true ‘guitar player’ or ‘drummer’ etc and really get a chance to focus on their area of choice, with a greater amount of time devoted to practising their chosen instruments, and where possible their choice of music from what is available in the department and what the pupil can source themselves from outside school.

The course includes:

  1. Performing / focused practice time on 2 (or sometimes 3) of the pupil’s chosen instruments.
  2. Exploring and creating their own music using Blues and Pentatonic Scales, learning how to improvise.
  3. Understanding music/theory covering Scottish, Popular Music, Baroque, Classical and Romantic styles.
  4. Listening to and analysing a wide range of music.
  5. Using technology (PC) to support the listening / theory element – Online quizzes / team games etc.  At times it may be appropriate for pupils to record some of their own created pieces on to PC.
  6. Using the Glow site to complete PLP documents.

Pupils come to music 3 periods per week in S3.
