The Higher Music course runs for pupils in S5/6.  This course gives pupils the chance to take their performing skills further, and really begin to shine and be impressive on their instruments.  Pupils will continue to improve their ability to perform and to analyse, understand, and create their own music.  The course includes:

  1. Practising and developing their skills with specific pieces chosen as far as possible by the pupil, from a library of appropriate options.
  2. Improving the ability to perform pieces and keep going from start to finish under pressure.
  3. Understanding music – listening to music to identify features.
  4. Improve ability in music theory / understanding of written music.
  5. Pupils play for a total of 12 minutes (possibly 8 minutes on their main instrument and 4 minutes on their second instrument), and sit a written paper which contains a mixture of multi-choice and open response questions.
  6. Using PCs/Technology to compose their own music in a Jazz / Funk style.

Pupils come to music for 6 periods in S5/6
