The Advanced Higher Music course runs for pupils in S6.  This course gives pupils the chance to perform at a Grade 5 level, and show mastery on their instruments.  Pupils will continue to improve their ability to perform and to analyse, understand, and create their own music as they did in the Higher course.  The course includes:

  1. Practising and developing their skills with specific pieces chosen as far as possible by the pupil in partnership with the teacher, from a library of appropriate options.
  2. Improving the ability to perform pieces and be really expressive through their performing.
  3. Understanding music – listening to music to identify features.
  4. Improve ability in music theory / understanding of written music.
  5. The chance to analyse music ‘in depth’ and write a report on this analysis.
  6. Pupils play for a total of 18 minutes (possibly 12 minutes on their main instrument and 6 minutes on their second instrument), and sit a written paper which contains a mixture of multi-choice, open, and prose response questions.
  7. Using PCs/Technology to compose their own music in a Classical / Free style.

Pupils come to music for 6 periods in S5/6
