The Higher Music Technology course runs for pupils in S5/6. This course gives pupils the opportunity to learn how to record, mix and master music and produce a radio broadcast submission for the final exam. The course includes:
- Using professionally accepted software on PC to create, record, mix and master a piece of music.
- Create a track of pupil choice using various Funk / Dance loops.
- Record music with microphones learning how to place microphones correctly to do this.
- Learning the ‘tricks of the trade’ in how to mix and master music tracks well.
- Pupils keep an ongoing record of their work on the radio broadcast in a series of PowerPoint files as part of their exam submission.
- Understanding Music – pupils learn about the technical terminology related to producing / recording music and respond to audio examples in the final written exam.
Pupils who have already taken a music qualification at National 5 or Higher Performing are most suited to the course. Any pupils taking the course should have an interest/ability in music. It is common for pupils interested in music to take the Higher Technology course as well as the standard Higher Music or Advanced Higher Music course in either S5 or S6.
Pupils come to music for 6 periods in S5/6.
