We are proud to hold the LGBT+ Silver Charter Mark. The committee has worked tirelessly to promote LGBT+ issues and ensure our school is an inclusive environment.
Our evidence speaks for itself: Our Evidence
Over the last few years our group has both been a part of and organised many events. During these, we have learned about many aspects of LGBT+ history including the Stonewall Riots and Section 28. This informed the personal learning for our pupil champion candidates who shared their findings with the group during the elections. We were also incredibly lucky to have our ‘Author in Residence’ help with the Change Project. This again involved learning more about queer history, as well as writing positive short stories that included many LGBT+ characters and themes throughout. We produced a fantastic collection of stories which can be picked up from the library! Our current champions got the chance to speak with members from other GSA groups (Gay Straight Alliance), as well as the Scottish Youth Parliament to help better the teachings of LGBT+ history and current issues. This then led on to further discussions with Dumfries Academy on the impact that having a larger or more present GSA can make in schools.
