Enterprising Maths

On Tuesday Bogdan, Erin, Robyn and Abigail did a great job representing the school and, indeed, East Ayrshire at the Enterprising Maths National Final. They had fun exploring the science centre at lunchtime, even challenging Mr Craig to a game of 4-way air hockey!

Ghost Tour

Our annual Ghost Tour took place last night.  S1 pupils enjoyed the event ran by the Performing Arts department. Well done to S3 Drama, S2 Music Technology and the school band for their impressive performances! Thank you also to Glow Homes for their kind donation which helped buy props and materials for the night.

1O1 made landmark models from around the world as part of their S1 Geography course. Pupils brought in a fantastic array of landscapes and buildings and shared three facts with the class, this was a great fun way to increase our learning. Thanks to all pupils for their outstanding efforts.

S2 Geography embraced FairTrade Fortnight and had an experiential lesson where they had to produce and negotiate with how to get a fair price for their goods. Pupils had the opportunity to showcase their learning with a poster, information leaflet or PowerPoint. This provided new information and facts for all of the class.

Swiss Visitors

For the past two days Kilmarnock Academy have hosted 15 STEM teachers from Switzerland. The teachers visited the school to see the excellent work done throughout the school in relation to STEM.

We were chosen to host the Swiss delegates as one of few schools accredited with the STEM Nation award. The teachers were extremely impressed with all the STEM initiatives happening throughout the school. They especially praised the young people who presented to them this morning all the amazing hard work they have completed in STEM extra curricular clubs. It was clear to see by all the enthusiasm these pupils had for the field and the skills they developed through all their hard work. They represented the school perfectly.

The Swiss teachers commented on how welcoming and nurturing all staff and pupils were and left with a true reflection of the STEM efforts within the school and the inclusive ethos of the school.
