Courses and Levels Taught in Department BGE

S1 – French is taught 3 periods per week as the main language. Spanish and Gaelic are taught on rotation one period per week.

S2 and S3 – At the end of S1, pupils choose to study French, Spanish or Gaelic. There can also be a combination of 2 languages. This language choice is continued through until S3.

Gaelic (Learners) and Gàidhlig are taught in the BGE.  In addition, our GME pupils have the opportunity to be taught a range of rotational subjects through the medium of Gàidhlig, such as PSE, RE and Drama.

 

SENIOR PHASE

S4 – National 4 and 5 French or Spanish is currently available however, it is expected that Gaelic will be available as a National Qualification soon.

S5 and S6 – The possibility to study French or Spanish at National 5 or Higher level is available. Pupils can also opt for a Spanish ‘short course’ which is taught twice per week – it is expected that pupils would be able to achieve National 4 through this course.
