Effective Contributors/Successful Learners

The Snowdrops are showing lots of interest in our new theme story about the 3 little pigs.  Everyone has responded well to building houses using large bricks or construction toys.  We have all explored different textures and noticed how they feel using our fingers.  The Snowdrops have showed interest in gluing and sticking textures to create houses from our story.  We are creating a wall display in class showing our story.

Earth Day with the Snowdrops

Effective Contributors/Responsible citizens/Confident IndividualsEarth Day 2021: What's it all about? - CBBC Newsround

For Earth Day we watched songs which celebrated the earth and suggested ways we can help the planet.

We enjoyed looking at a globe in the class and hearing The Tiger Who Came to Tea story which helped us talk about looking after the habitats of tigers.
In the afternoon, the Snowdrops took advantage of the beautiful sunshine and walked to the school garden to hang up our bird feeders. While we were in the garden, we used our looking skills to spot items for our Earth Day scavenger hunt. We were looking for lots of things including leaves, spiders, worms and clouds!

The Snowdrops have showed lots of interest in Easter activities this week.  We have participated actively in our school Easter assembly, playing our percussion instruments and using our chicken signs during songs.  Everyone enjoyed making Easter nest krispies and used our fingers to explore different ingredients.  They smell yummy!  There was lots of independent painting this week too, using different brushes and also finger painting patterns.  Enjoy all our photos showing you how busy we have been.  Happy Easter everyone!

FAOL Enterprise – Growing Potatoes

Responsible Citizens – Effective Contributors – Successful Learners

The Snowdrops showed lots of interest in exploring soil textures and potato seeds.  Everyone took turns to help fill our large potato growing bag with soil – it took a lot of soil!  We used our fingers to push the potato seeds down into the soil and then made sure they were all hidden and covered.  The Snowdrops had fun using a watering can to make sure the potato seeds had some water to start to help them to grow.  We have put our potato bags out in the playground and will watch them grow as they get plenty of sun and water.

FAOL Science – What makes things go?

Successful Learners/Confident Individuals

The Snowdrops investigated the different ways toy cars can move. We looked at what happens to the toys when we push, pull, press buttons, wind up, program and use remote controls. We listened carefully to instructions then tried out all the different ways to make the toy cars move across a smooth surface towards our friends.

Science week with the Snowdrops!

SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS/CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS/EFFECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS/RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS

What a busy week the Snowdrops have had with all our exciting science activities.

We made balloons inflate by mixing water and bicarbonate of soda in a bottle with a balloon attached at the top. It was amazing!

We also made the coloured coating of Skittles dissolve in water when we poured water over them. It was so colourful and pretty!

We were amazed to see that raisins can move and dance. When we added raisins to still water, they sunk to the bottom but when we put them in a cup of fizzy water they moved up and down.

The Snowdrops also learned why it is so important to wash our hands. We did an experiment and used pepper as pretend germs. When we put our fingers in the plate of water and pepper, the ‘germs’ stuck to our fingers but when we put soap on our fingers, the ‘germs’ (pepper) moved away from our fingers.

Lastly, we made our own cress heads and learned about what plants need in order to grow.  We enjoyed feeling the compost, watering our cress seeds and making our cress head faces!

World Book Day – FAOL Whole School Project/Citizenship

The Snowdrops enjoyed a zoo themed World Book Day. We enjoyed listening to Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell and meeting the characters of the story. We did lots of great looking at the story book and joined in using signs and words. We also spent time choosing books to look at in class.

In the afternoon, we made a bookmark and chose which Dear Zoo characters we wanted to stick on the bookmark. We then made our hand print Dear Zoo animals. We enjoyed making choices and feeling the paint on our hands.

Happy World Book Day everyone!

Welcome Back Snowdrops – Fairtrade Fun!

Successful Learners        Responsible Citizens

The Snowdrops have been busy since coming back to school. One topic we have been learning about is Fairtrade. We watched a video about Pablo the Banana and the journey of bananas. We were using good looking skills to spot the Fairtrade logos on different food packages and we went on a Fairtrade banana hunt. We also made our own bananas using yellow and brown tissue paper, and of course, we remembered to stick on fairtrade logos! Lots of fun learning had by all!
