Willowbank School, KilmarnockThe Bluebells class have been learning about Vincent Van Gogh (1853 -1890). He was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who is one of the most famous artists.
The pupils had a go at recreating the butterflies in Van Gogh’s famous ‘Poppies and Butterflies’ painting. Successful learners today!
Today the Pine class learned a little about Paul Klee (1879 – 1940)who was a Swiss-born artist. He had a very unusual style and created painting in Expressionism, Cubism, and Surrealism styles.
Today we tried recreating his ‘Castle & Sun 1928’ painting by using block printing. Successful learners today!
The Bluebells has fun making some clothes peg dolls for their class display board. The boys and girls used some lovely, sensory fabrics to create clothes for the dolls by drawing around a template.
Effective contributors. Superb!
The Pine Class have been experimenting in the art room today. The pupils tried out a screen printing technique to create a tartan .
They then used the final ‘tartan’ pieces to create Robert Burns pictures. A lovely sensory morning for our successful learners.
The boys in the Transition class have been learning about the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh (7 June 1868 – 10 December 1928).
He was a Scottish architect, designer, watercolourist and sculptor and extremely influential within the Arts and Crafts movement and Art Nouveau in the United Kingdom.
We discussed his famous works and buildings and also the tragic fires which destroyed part of the Glasgow School of Art building where Mrs Macdonald studied.
I’m sure you will agree that these beautiful Mackintosh inspired roses are fabulous! Lots of different sensory textures were used. Well done boys, successful learners.
The Pine class worked very well in the art room this week recreating a cityscape of Aberdeen. This will be displayed on the class theme board.
The pupils all listened well to instruction and took turns at using the textured materials. Everyone worked well together. Well done to these effective contributors!
The Bluebells class have spent this afternoon making 3D model shops for display. This is part of their class topic, Thistle Street.
With some support, the pupils used their ITC skills to search for the building shape, exterior material ideas, doors styles, windows shapes and shop fronts.
Everyone then experienced some time playing with the large lego bricks and building their model on a larger scale. Lots of imaginative ideas today! Super successful learners and confident individuals. 
The Beech class have been experimenting with the basic elements of line, colour and texture. The pupils were given a template and asked to fill in each area with various sensory items found in the art room.
I think you’ll agree that we have some pretty fantastic results! These images will be displayed in the art room to inspire other budding young artists. Confident individuals!
The Transition boys have been learning about Joseph Stella, the Italian born American Futurist painter. Stella liked to create a lot of abstract art using lines.
The boys had a go at recreating the futuristic looking artwork by using masking tape to make some resistance pictures. Super successful learners today!
The Pine Class tried out a different type of sensory art. Mrs Macdonald glued art straws to card and the pupils used foil paper to mould over the 3D lines.
The children ripped and scrunched the silver foil which was then glued to the card. Coloured paint was then added to the designs to create a stained glass window affect.
Excellent hard work by out successful learners.
