You may rememeber that we asked you to complete a questionnaire about how you were supported in your mental health and wellbeing at RBA. Well, we listened to what you had to say and here is what we have done so far!
You said:
- The relationships that you felt you needed support with was with your friends.
- Anxiety and Stress were the two highest recorded reasons for poor mental wellbeing.
- “Sometimes guidance will take me out of class to talk to me about my week or however long and i have a card which says i can leave class earlier and a timeout pass.”
- “Asking if your stressed about work or tests and asking if your ok..”
We did!
- During PLP and PSE we have reorganised the curriculum so there is a focus in every year group about relationships and how to spot the signs of a healthy and unhealthy relationship and where to go if you ever need advice. In PLP we now have Wellbeing Wednesday where we are looking at each of the wellbeing indicators to ensure you are equipped with the right knowledge, tools and support for everyday life.
- We have been looking to introduce lots of different supports to help with this from our Counselling service, different types of training such as LIAM- Let’s Investigate Anxiety Management and Mindfulness techniques. We continue to seek advice from mental health professionals to find the right support for you.
- Your Guidance teacher is always there to have regular check ins with, issue supports such as time out passes, speak with your classroom teachers and keep your parents/carers informed of how you are doing. There is a whole network of people supporting you and you might not even be aware of this! Finding the right support somtimes takes a bit of time but by having those communication lines open all the time we can do this together- that’s why we say it is so important to talk to someone.
- We are a nurturing school and we all know how important it is to be asked, ‘how are you?’ Sometimes that is all you have been waiting for so that you can talk about things. But don’t sit there and wait if you need to talk. Make sure you have someone in school, a trusted adult, that you can go to!
