First Week Back in January

The pupils have worked hard this week and enjoyed choosing a new seating arrangement for the class.

We have been learning to calculate change by using the ‘counting on’ method. Some learners like to do this with a blank number line, a 100 square or simply in their head. It can be quite tricky so pupils may want to practise this a little more. As a rough guide the pyramids were calculating change from £2 and with the challenge of £5; the cubes have been working with change from 50p or £1.

To help with our maths topic the pupils were tasked with creating a coffee shop in the playground area for the P1/2 to enjoy. They thoroughly enjoyed this task and really got creative with menus, specials boards and some first class serving skills!

In literacy we were looking at rhyming patterns in poetry and generating rhyme to describe the months of the year.

We finished the week with making some calendars inspired by  our poems using zentangle patterns.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Scottish Song for Burns Day

Well, after a near unanimous vote, the children decided on learning the Jeely Piece Song for Burns Day this year. The energy in the room as the children sang their first attempt after hearing it for the first time was unmatched. Over the coming weeks, we look forward to disecting and learning more about the story behind the song, as well as learning the song itself for you all to enjoy on the 23rd January.

You will find links to the YouTube video and lyrics for the song below. Please note, I have included all verses in the lyrics below, we may not do all of these, we will see how the children get on and choose their favourites.
