Week Ending 24.10.25

It has been a lovely week catching up with everyone after the October Holiday. Primary 1 have come back ready for action as we continued our learning of the initial sounds. This week our focus sounds were ‘s’ and ‘i’.

Here are the links to the Jolly Phonics song and action videos which would be really useful to practise together at home.

Primary 1 were delighted to have some visitors to our class, including Inky the Mouse who took a quick selfie with ourĀ  class! We worked hard this week on our formation of each letter and began to look at building some words with the sounds we have learned so far. You can use the card sent home on parents night to do this at home, too! We also began to learn some ‘common words’ which sometimes cannot be sounded out.

We consolidated our learning with lots of activities including creating our own Sammy the Snake and Incy Wincy Spider crafts. You might have seen our wonderful creations coming home in our bags this week!

In numeracy, we learned how to ‘subitize’ which means looking at how many items are in a group, or in a pattern (like on a dice) without counting them. This is a really useful skill which lots of us found very fun to practise. We have also been looking at missing numbers, with some of us building and writing numbers up to 20. We will continue to work on ordering numbers in the coming weeks.

Finally, a quick note to say that our day for walking around the village will be changing from next week. We will now be walking onĀ  Thursday with Mrs Hasson.

wk ending 10 October

This week we have started learning about sounds. We will be introduced to two new sounds each week, from the ‘Active Literacy’ programme. We began our learning with the ‘a’ and ‘t’ sound.

Here is a link to the Jolly Phonics rhyme and action videos for each sound which could be used to support our learning at home. You could also begin to use the sound cards issued on parents night to practise each sound and begin to word build. We were amazed to discover that we can already build the word ‘at’ with the sounds we learned this week.

We worked hard on the formation of each letter and self assessed our work using tickled pink and green for growth.

In numeracy, we continued working on our number sense, formation and ordering. We used the rekenreks to make number and show them in different ways.

On Wednesday afternoon, we celebrated a wonderful first term in Primary 1 with a party. We danced, played games and all had a lovely time together to celebrate our hard work in P1.

Here are some other pictures from a fun filled week in P1! We hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and we look forward to seeing you all again in Term 2.

Our First Day in Primary 1

What a super day we had in Primary 1.

We have had a very busy day today with lots of new routines and learning. We explored lots of the resources in our classroom and played and worked together beautifully.

We also went on a tour of the school and even popped in to visit Mrs Govans and Mrs Schendel in their offices. Before we knew it, it was time for lunch and we had some tasty food in the dinner hall.

After lunch, we took part in some more activities in our classroom. We finished our day by listening to a story while eating some delicious apples.

We are so excited to welcome you back tomorrow!
