Big Talk 2: My Favourite Toy

This term our Big Talk topic is ‘My Favourite Toy’.

At home, your child should prepare and practise their talk.  They can bring in a toy, photos or poster to help them.

Some ideas to include in their talk might be:

  • What is your toy?  Why is it your favourite?
  • Where did you get your toy?  How long have you had it?
  • How does it work?  What makes it special?

The talk should be ready to be presented the week bg Monday 11th May.  More details will be given shortly (please check back to the Blog) about which day your child will be giving their talk.

We look forward to hearing them!

Week ending 24th April

Another busy week in Primary 1.

This week we began learning to use digraphs, we had a focus on  “sh”. We have been talking part in lots of activities, including shape art, building shops & ships, as well as reading and writing lots of words containing the sh digraph. We also enjoyed reading in our groups and creating a visualisation of the characters from “The Tiger Who Came To Tea”.

In numeracy, we are beginning to look at number patterns. We explored counting in 2s. We also continued to use different strategies at our calculation station and had a fantastic time creating our own ‘snakes and ladders’ games on the 100 squares. This helps us with our counting, number awareness, dot patterns and turn taking!

We got creative and designed some wonderful spring themed art for the Catrine Show competition. We talked about all of the wonderful things about spring, including the lovely weather, beautiful flowers, baby animals and buzzing bees. We tried to include lots of these in our design.

The highlight of the week however, for Mrs Hasson, Miss Kockaya and lots of our pupils was definitely stopping by the park during our Thursday afternoon walk. We had a fantastic time.

Big Talk

Twice a year, the children take part in our whole school ‘Big Talk Homework Challenge’.  This is where your child gets the opportunity to prepare and present a talk to the class.  The topic will change depending on the focus for that term.  This term our  topic is ‘My Favourite Toy’.

At home, your child should prepare and practise their talk.  They can bring in a toy, photos or posters to help them. Please see below a great example of a poster that was made.  They used lots of drawings instead of writing which helped the child remember what to say.

Some ideas to include in their talk might be:

  • What is your toy? why is it your favourite?
  • where did you get your toy? How long have you had it?
  • How does it work? what makes it special?

The talk should be ready to be presented the week beginning Monday 11th May. More details will be given shortly (please check Blog) about which day that week your child will be giving their talk.

We look forward to hearing them!

Happy Easter

As Term 3 comes to an end we would like to let you know how proud we are of the effort and progress that has been made by our fantastic Primary 1’s this term.

We can hardly believe that we will soon be heading into the final term of Primary 1.

Here are some pictures of the wonderful creations for our annual Egg Design competition and our ‘shared play’ with Primary 2. All of our designs were absolutely brilliant. We really do have some very creative boys and girls in Primary 1.

Congratulations to Hannah, the P1 winner of the competition. Hannah’s entry ‘Little Bunny Bun’ was imaginative, creative and had lots of attention to detail. Go Hannah!

We hope everyone has a lovely and restful Easter Holiday. We will be looking forward to seeing all of you after the holiday.

Happy Easter
