Wk ending 15th May

This week we have been consolidating our digraphs, ‘ch’ ‘th’ and ‘sh’.  We have worked hard to say, make and write these sounds.  We have also been shearing sheep, sorting feathers, and drawing ‘ch’ pictures to put in a treasure chest.

In writing, we were looking at our next traditional tale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  This week we were thinking about what the characters were feeling and writing it in a speech bubble. We also had fun exploring measure through sharing porridge with the characters!

Our Big Talks were fantastic this week.  We loved hearing all about their favourite toys.  Well done everyone!

In maths this week, we have been continuing to look at number patterns.  We focused on counting in 10s.

In literacy, we are developing our understanding of the 6 Active Literacy comprehension strategies. This week we looked at ‘Main Ideas’. We were able to identify the most important parts of a story and the supporting details.

We have also been continuing to look at different ways we can organise data.  We made our own Carroll diagrams using shapes and animals.

We have also really enjoyed our visit from the ECC groups this week.  We have been showing them how we play, share and have fun in Primary One.

In our Castle topic, we have been looking at where castles are and have began to create our very own castle in our role play area.

Week Ending 1st May

This has been another busy week in Primary 1 with lots of new learning. We were introduced to the ‘th’ digraph which we learned is quite special as it can make two different sounds. You could ask us about this at home.

We took part in lots of  activities to practise this sound. We also continued our work on ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ and learned about summarising. We were able to retell the story, using only the most important details, to a friend. We then were able to sequence the story in the correct order.

In numeracy, we continued to develop our knowledge of number patterns and have been focussing on counting in 2s.

We also began some new learning about ‘Data Handling’ with Miss Kockaya. We went outside on a lovely sunny afternoon to collect some objects which we then counted and sorted. We also began to learn about pictograms. Take a look at some of our pictures!

We have also started to learn about ‘Castles’. We had lots of ‘wonders’ about castles and can’t wait to find out all about them!

We also had a visit from some of the boys and girls from the nursery as part of their transition. We had a great time welcoming them into our classroom and showing them some of our favourite toys and activities.
