Today we finally heard all presentations and had a chance to see all 25 castles. What a successful homework project this turned out to be. Each and every castle had at least one element that stood out from the rest, making the decision to choose 3 winners really hard. In fact, so hard, I asked Mrs Findlay to do the honours.
I hope you enjoy looking at the efforts of all P5i children, and again, accept my thanks for supporting your child to complete their task and to be such successful learners. Well done one and all.
Many congratulations to Kye, Megan and Lyle for your super castles. You made Mrs Findlay’s job even harder.
Pupils had a super day doing various activities connected with Pudsey and to health and well being. Thank you all for your generous donations.
The day started off well with a school fitness session and ended with a gymnastic marathon circuit for P.E., so children should be well exercised – and worn out.
Poetry winners
We also watched recording of pupils reciting their Owl and the Pussycat poem and two winners were chosen for their super actions and recital. Many congratulations to Luke and Ellie.
Pupils are now looking forward to learning our next poem! Go P5i.
Today, P5i really enjoyed their maths activity which involved answering numbered questions on decimals that had been dotted around the room. When a question had been answered by all, then each pupil would SCOOT along to the next one. What a hoot! Thanks to Miss Telford for sharing the idea 🙂
P5M were delighted to have an input on coding and app development today. The visit to P5M was down to Gemma Davidson winning the school’s app design competition. A huge congratulations to Gemma, who’s app, Bee ‘appy, is available to download on the App Store and android play store.
Today pupils concluded their learning on Perimeter by measuring irregular shapes. Using lengths of wool, pupils were able to measure around the awkward shapes then measure the wool used, to find the perimeter: a task they seem to have enjoyed.
Next we will be looking at Area and different ways to measure it.
Spelling homework this week will focus on the same sounds as last week (ae) but with a new selection of words. It is also Own Choice week when pupils can choose which activity to do from the grid, as well as activity A.
Maths homework is based on Problem Solving (what number operation is used to find the answer?) with a cryptic challenge at the end. Something a little different to get the children (and adults?) thinking.
Children are progressing well with their ‘Learn Its’, recalling number facts on sight. Please continue to challenge your child on these and previous week’s numbers to greatly improve their skills. The new ‘Learn Its’ for this week are:
5 + 6; 6 + 3; 12 + 4; 3 + 4; 9 + 8
African country research project– due 25th November
As part of our termly topic on Africa, all P5i pupils have been given a specific country to research. Children can make up a PowerPoint presentation, compile a fact file, create a book … the only limit is their imagination. Presentations should be factual, interesting, informative and in their own words. No copy and pasting please. As presentations will be presented by children to their peers, I am really looking forward to learning new and interesting facts about the countries chosen by them.
Have a good week.
Mrs Irving
