Bonfires and Fireworks

Please see the following information which has been received from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland regarding bonfires and fireworks:

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we approach the bonfire and firework season, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland are working together to ensure the safety of our communities. In previous years, we have seen incidents of firework-related anti-social behaviour (ASB), and we are asking for your support in helping to prevent this.

Please take a moment to review the following guidance:

  • Supervision: Children and young people should not handle, purchase, or set off fireworks.
  • Behaviour: Do not allow your children to participate in or accompany others involved in ASB or disorder.
  • Reporting: Please report any ASB or disorder you witness or hear about.
  • Waste Disposal: Dispose of household and garden waste appropriately in the lead-up to bonfire weekend.
  • Bonfire Materials: Report any large items (e.g. furniture, pallets) that could be used to build unauthorised bonfires to your local council for removal.
  • Fireworks Sales: Report any unauthorised fireworks sellers to Police Scotland or Crimestoppers.
  • Community Safety: Encourage young people to report fireworks misuse or deliberate fire raising anonymously via Fearless.org.

Fearless.org is a youth-focused platform run by Crimestoppers that empowers young people across Scotland to report crime anonymously and safely, helping to prevent antisocial behaviour and promote community safety.

Fireworks Legislation – Key Points:

  • It is illegal for anyone under 18 to possess adult fireworks in a public place.
  • It is an offence to supply adult fireworks to persons under 18.
  • It is an offence to supply any fireworks to persons under 16.
  • Throwing fireworks in public places, including roads, is strictly prohibited.

(Adult fireworks exclude caps, cracker snaps, indoor fireworks, novelty matches, party poppers, serpents, and throw downs.)

Our shared goal is to ensure that residents feel safe and protected during this period.

Any behaviour that endangers people or property will not be tolerated.

Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.

Kind regards,

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service

Halloween – Choking Hazard

!!! Halloween – Choking Hazard !!!

Dear Parent/Carers,

With Halloween coming up when sweet treats and bags of goodies will be eaten, we would like to highlight the risk of choking, particularly with small, spherical, gummy textured sweets.

We would encourage all parents to avoid sending in chocolate or jelly eyeballs, lollies or any other small round confectionaries for snack.

Given that pupils could be running around over break time these sweets can be incredibly dangerous.

Let’s help keep our pupils safe and avoid bringing this type of sweet to school.

Please remember we are also a NUT FREE school – this includes chocolate hazelnut spreads and fillings.

Thank you

Reading Scheme – Ebooks Update

Ochiltree Primary School – eBooks Update

Reading our eBooks on mobile devices requires some adjustments depending on what browser is being used.

We always advise using Chrome as the main browser to access and read resources without any issues. If there are any parents/children who are using iPads and their main browser is Safari, they must ensure that the mobile site version is enabled. For all Samsung device users – we advise downloading Chrome and use it as their main browsers, as Boost Learning is not compatible with Samsung internet browser.

If you have any further issues accessing the eBooks, please contact the school.

Thank you.

School Fund – Update

Our amazing School sponsored walk raised  money for our school fund. This is money raised and  utilized  by the school  to support the  wider curriculum and resources needed in addition to our core budget from the local authority.

The parent council, along with their consultative role, raise funds  for the school that are given to support specific  projects and requests. The parent council have gifted  monies  to the school for  chrome books,  digital access and most recently  donated £300 to reduce the cost of the pantomime.

Both these funds, in their differing ways, allow us to continue improvement for our young people and offer access to a wider range of experiences. Both the school and the parent council thank you all for your generosity in supporting either fund .

Lunch Time STEM Club – update

**Please note that the Lunch time STEM Club will take place on a Thursday from 12.45 p.m. – 1.15 p.m. and not on a Tuesday as per letter dated 24.10.2025. This may now conflict with your child’s permission to attend Church Lunches. However the school would like to confirm that the STEM Club was organised before the Church provided dates for their lunches. Please accept our apologies for any confusion caused.

Thank you.
