Initial sounds

Good morning everyone πŸ’œπŸ’›β€πŸ’šπŸ’™

Today I thought we could have a look at initial sounds.

I would like you to find objects that start with the same letter as your name for example T is for Tracey and T is for Train.

If you can do this, why not try and see if you can find any objects for the first letter of your mum, dad, brothers or sisters names or even any pets!

My pets name is also T …T is for Tilly.

Cant wait to see what you find.Β  Please send any photos to myself or your own group lady.

Have a fun everyone.

Tracey

ENVIRONMENTAL PRINT
πŸ§ƒπŸ₯«βš οΈπŸš‘

Environmental print is the print of everyday life. It’s the print that appears on signs, labels and logo’s. It is on shop signs, street signs and food packages. Learning to read environmental print is an important pre-literacy skill.

Children can learn to read in shops, out on walks or in the home. They can identify their favourite box of cereal, snacks, films etc. It is an important step in learning to read print and helps bridge the connection between letters and the first efforts to read.

Have a look when you’re on a walk, what print do you know? What can you find around your house? Can you pick your favourites? I would love to see what prints you can identify.

I’ve also included an Environmental Print alphabet, you may recognise these prints from our wall in the ECC…. did you also spot them in Michelle’s video yesterday?

Take care,

Tuesday 19th January – Home Learning

Good Morning Everyone πŸ™‚

I hope you are all well and enjoying taking part in all of our learning activities from home πŸ‘πŸ»

One of our favourite things to do in the ECC is to sing songs and learn new nursery rhymes! So today, I thought we could have a little practice at our nursery rhymes.

Hey Diddle Diddle is one of my favourites – and I have been practicing lots.. check out the video below! Can you have a listen and try to learn this one too?

Below is the words of Hey Diddle Diddle so that your adults can help too. When you have finished, maybe you could tell me your favourite nursery rhyme too. Do you remember all the words? Can you sing it?

I would love to hear how you get on, you can send any pictures, videos or comments to –

Take care everyone, Michelle 😊

Home Learning – Monday 18th January πŸ’šπŸ’œπŸ’™β€οΈπŸ’›

Good morning,

I hope we are all doing well at home and enjoying some of the activities. Β Please remember and email your child’s key worker or myself for check ins or specific activities to develop your child’s learning. As the hub provision is on in the ECC, staff are at some point working in the ECC so may not get back to you that day.

For today’s task is to play some board games. Playing board games are one of the best ways to encourage learning whilst having fun. Games have many benefits like developing critical thinking skills, emotional and social Β development with learning about turn taking; cooperating and winning or losing a game playing with peers.

If you have a printer at home this is a template of a counting game you could perhaps print or draw out on paper if not.

I also saw this week is Space Week on CBeebies. They will be exploring the planets, solar system, astronauts, rockets and robots at the National Space Centre. Learning about Space is always a topic the children love learning about in the ECC so may be worth allowing them to watch and record what information the children can tell you? Ask them some questions. The episodes are on at 4:50pm daily.

Monday – Rockets πŸš€

Tuesday – Solar System 🌌

Wednesday – International Space Station πŸ›°

Thursday – Space Robots πŸ€–

Friday – Astronaut training πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸš€

These will also be available on IPlayer.

You can let us know how you get on?

Good morning everyone

Before Christmas we had been investigating shapes. We had a shape hunt around the nursery and found lots. I would like you to have a shape hunt at home , have a look and see if you can recognise any 2d shapes like a square, circle, rectangle and triangle.Β  Then you could try and find some 3d shapes, like a cylinder, a cube etc , maybe you could draw some shapes too. If you are outside , you might see all kinds of different shapes. See if you can name some of them. Get your grown-up to take some pictures, I would love to see them. Happy shape hunting everyone.

Good Morning Everyone! 😊

In nursery the children have been working hard on identifying rhyming words in stories, songs etc.

Listen carefully to this story, can you hear any words that rhyme or sound the same? Β Talk to your grown up about it. Β You could also play I Spy at home, Β can you spot any objects that rhyme or sound the same?

I would love to hear how you get on.

Kind Regards

Good morning everyone. Β I you are doing well and enjoying the activities to do from home this week.

In the ECC we work at developing our number recognition and ordering numbers 0-10. *Always remember 0 when counting and be aware that this represents a value too*

Can you see what numbers you can find in your home, garden or on a walk? Where did you find them? Can you name them?

Numbers in the environment

Can you draw numbers on pieces of paper and order them 0-10 then 10-0. You can change this to suit whatever your child is comfortable with ie. 0-3 or 0-5

As an extra challenge can you then match amounts of objects to these numbers.Β Here is an example below.

Matching amounts to numerals

You can keep me updated on how you are getting on or ask any questions by emailing:

Good morning,

It is to be quite a lovely fresh day today so if you are out for a walk I have a an activity here for you.
Investigating signs and recognising them are very early reading skills.

Speak about the signs that you can see, do you know the numbers? or is there any you already know? This can include shop signs for example co-op, post office etc.
If heading out please remember to do so safely 😁

If you are not heading out today here is one you can do in the house.

Remember to let your child’s keyworkers know how they are getting on with these activities. Take some pictures.
