ECC Session 2022-2023

Hello everyone,

We will soon be welcoming new children and families in joining us for our 2022-23 session in the ECC.

I will be arranging inductions for children starting with us from August onwards in the week beginning 19th June 2022.  I will be in touch individually to all parents/carers to arrange which day and time that you and your child will come in to visit the ECC.

Please note that the ECC must still adhere to some restrictions therefore, this may be done slightly different than previously.

if in the meantime you have any queries please contact me on maria.paterson@eastayrshire.org.uk

Summer Trip

Thursday 17th June 2022

We are taking the children to Kidzplay in Prestwick. We will get a coach there in the morning and not return until the late afternoon.  The times will stay the same for the session.

To help with the cost of this fun filled day we are asking for £10 to be paid by 20th May 2022.

This can be paid in cash to the staff either at drop off or collection.

Term 4 in ECC

Good afternoon everyone,

Welcome back after the Easter holidays, we hope you all managed to have a much deserved break. As we enter the last term before the Summer, I have some important upcoming ‘Dates for your Diary’.

  • From week beginning 25th April the children that are moving up after the summer will be making regular visits to the P1 class.
  • Monday 2nd May – Bank Holiday
  • Wednesday 4th May – Child’s reports will be sent home
  • Thursday 5th May – In-service day due to election.
  • Weeks beginning 9th & 16th May – Parent appointments. You will be given a set day and time for your telephone appointment with your child’s keyworker.

Can I also remind our families that we will be having a summer trip with the children to kidzplay in Prestwick and that the payment of £10 towards helping with this cost is due by mid-May.

As we are approaching warmer weather could you also make sure that you use appropriate SPF on your child and have one spare for their ECC bag that we can top up – please ensure their name is on the bottle.

If you have any queries please speak with a member of staff.

Moving up to P1

Good morning,

As we are nearing the end of this session it will see many of our pre-schoolers moving up to P1 (Scary I know!!!). We want to do our best in order to get the children best prepared for this transition. There is a fact that is not always known that is, in order for children to be able to sit for any length of time to listen and focus their attention they actually need the physical core muscles to be able to achieve this.

In the ECC we regularly provide opportunities in which the children can build their core muscles. I have listed below some games in which you can play at home that will help with this development.

Core Exercises

Please ask a member of staff for any more information.

Feel free to post on Learning Journals your child’s progress.

ECC Summer Trip

I am very excited to inform you that this summer we will be able to take the children on a daytrip out of the ECC.

Date: Friday 17th June, 2022

Destination: Kidzplay Prestwick

Cost: £10

We have asked if you could possibly pay £10 towards your child’s trip this will accommodate for the transport, buffet, ice cream, juice and their play. The amount has to be paid by 20th May 2022.

Thank you again!! It is very exciting to be able to offer this to the children again.

Red Nose Day

We are celebrating Red Nose Day on Friday 18th March 2022. If you have anything Red to wear please feel free to wear it on Friday.

We hope to learn with the children a little background of Comic relief and why we raise money for charity. As well as some fantastic red nose activities throughout the day……..

Getting Ready For School

We only have a few weeks left of this term and then after the Easter Holidays, it is the last term before the Summer. Our pre-schoolers will be getting ready to move up to Primary One.

Transitions may be slightly different this year but we will let everyone know what these will be once confirmed.

In the ECC we will begin looking to promote more independent skills with the children moving up. This is something that we also encourage Parents/Carers to  do at home.

Please click on link for a ready for school checklist

Ready-for-school

If you feel your child is not yet ready to use a pen/pencil then please do not worry as there are lots of activities that will develop their fine motor skills that will make writing and drawing easier in time some of these would include;

  1. Threading – putting small objects through string.
  2. Using a straw and putting pasta through it
  3. Sort small objects like coins, buttons etc
  4. Using playdough – put in objects like cotton buds, small sticks etc
  5. Allow them to use tweezers to pick up small objects

Handy tips for starting P1:

  •  Labels with child’s name on all their belongings.
  •  Shoes that are easy to put on and fasten – same for gym shoes.
  •  Make sure your child can easily identify their belonging
  • s for example; coat, bag, pencil case and lunch bag.
  •  Practice zipping up coat with your child.
  •  Practice organising belongings – if taking off coat, jumper etc to put where it is meant to go and not left laying on floor.
  •  Eating using a knife and fork – if packed lunches easy to open items.
  • Ensuring that your child can confidently and independently go to the toilet themselves and wipe themselves clean.

This is a very exciting time for all the children and we want to prepare them as best as we can especially given the circumstances we have all faced this session.

If you need any other information please just ask a member of staff.
