Home Learning

Happy New Year to all my P1A families. As Mrs McKee explained in her email on Friday I will be communicating with you through the class blog on GLOW and by email. If you want to get in touch my email address is: gwen.campbell@eastayrshire.org.uk

I will post activities on a Monday and Bug Club books will also be allocated on a Monday. I will be in school teaching in base 1 on Wednesdays and Fridays every week so my access to emails will be more limited on those days. This week I will also be teaching on Thursday.

Please do not get stressed about doing every activity on the grid as I know some of you are working from home, have other children or babies to care for or other commitments. Try and do the core activities (which are in bold on the grid) if you can and anything else would be great.

The magnetic board, letters and numbers pack and the little literacy pack on the wee ring that we sent home earlier in the session will be very useful during the coming weeks.

Please encourage your child to talk, read, write and count as much as possible at home. Remember too that P1 children need time to play.

A great big thank you!

Mrs Campbell, Mrs McLaughland and Mrs O’Callaghan would like to thank all parents and carers for the very generous gifts which you have so kindly given to us. It is very much appreciated. Mrs Campbell was especially touched by the donation to the charity – Beautiful Inside and Out. Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and looking forward to working with you all again in 2021 after everyone has a well deserved break. 2020 has certainly been a year that we will never forget.

Outdoor learning update

All being well on Monday, the new boards should all be fitted by lunchtime and therefore we will not be outside for the full day. We will not keep the children outside for any great length of time if the weather is like it is today. We will still take the children outside for a shorter period of time because we have the tents available and the children are excited about spending some time in the tent, as well as it being a valuable learning experience.

Please still make sure your child has appropriate outdoor clothing for the short spells we are going to be outside.

Thank you.

Miss McConnell

Week ending 4th December

We have had another busy week in P1A. Our new sounds are ‘h’ and ‘w’ and our new words are was, went and his. We are practising blending three letters together. We are also doing lots of writing at literacy time.

Mrs Campbell would like to say how much she enjoyed speaking to everyone’s parents or carers during her telephone calls. The children are all making super progress and are very enthusiastic learners.

On Monday we are having our outdoor learning day. Please remember to wear warm clothes and if possible wear a pair of wellies as the ground is quite muddy.

Week ending 27th November

We have had another busy week in P1A. Our new sounds were ‘b’ and ‘u’ and our new words were be, but and your. We are getting better and better at making and reading cvc words. Please help us practise at home.

In numeracy we have been working on number stories within 10.

This week we were gifted Book Bug bags by the Scottish Book Trust. Please take time to share these at home. The bird book is a particular favourite with the children because it is full of facts.

We have also sent home magnetic whiteboards with the children who returned their non magnetic ones which were given out in error.

Week ending 20th November

This week our sounds were ‘f’ and ‘o’. Please practise making CVC words with sound cards or magnetic boards. Practise writing our common words to help remember how to spell them.

We are doing lots of work on addition number stories within 10. For example, 1+1=2, 3+2=5, 5+5=10.

This week was Road Safety Week and we heard lots of stories about Ziggy. We have learned how to keep safe on the road when walking and when travelling in a car.
