Week ending 11th September

We have had another busy week in Primary 1. We have started to learn our sounds starting with ‘a’ and ‘t’. We have also been learning some common words – a, at and the. Please practise these at home. Look for them in books and in the environment. Play ‘I spy’. One of the downsides of Covid restrictions is we cannot have a class book corner so please share books at home as much as you can. Your child should have brought the sounds and words home in a little bag which will be added to every week. We have also been having fun with numbers. We are particularly enjoying a resource called Numicon. We are doing lots of mark making and writing. Please do lots of drawing and writing at home too. In our farm topic we have been learning about different kinds of farms and about where different foods come from. One of the boys in the class visited a farm yesterday after school and shared some photos with us today of the baby calves. Mrs Campbell spoke to all of the P1A parents/carers earlier this week and was delighted to tell them all how well everyone was settling in at school and how hard everyone was working. Please remember next week is a short week as we are on holiday on Thursday 17th, Friday 18th and Monday 21st for the September weekend.

☎️ ‘Settling in’ phone calls ☎️

The Primary 1 teachers are hoping to give you a five minute ‘check in’ call at the beginning of next week to update you on how your child is settling in at school and for you to ask about anything you are unsure about. I know some of you don’t get much information from the children. I am going to be available on Monday afternoon (7th September) between 1.00 and 2.45 and on Tuesday morning (8th September) between 9.15 and 12.00. Please email me (gwen.campbell@eastayrshire.org.uk) to let me know whether Monday or Tuesday suits you best. Please give me the best number to phone you on in your email. Looking forward to speaking to you all.

Highlights of the week

We have had another busy week in P1A. We had a visit from a photographer from the Kilmarnock Standard on Thursday. We all looked very smart! We have been learning about farm animals and their babies for our topic on farms. We have been enjoying more stories about Elmer. We are learning the days of the week and the months of the year. Nearly all of us can now remember when our birthday is. We love our dough gym which is good fun. We have been finding out about what makes a good friend and we were drawing them today. Mrs Campbell thinks our drawings are getting better and better. Next week we will begin learning our sounds and we can’t wait!

Another busy week in P1A!

Primary 1A have had another busy week. Mrs Campbell is amazed at how well we are coping with school. We are having lots of fun doing Dough Gym to help strengthen our muscles. We love numbers and are learning to write them and we were chalking them in the playground. We went on a bug hunt in the school garden using magnifying glasses. We are listening to lots of stories. We loved ‘Ruby’s Worry’ which reminded us that telling someone else about a worry helps it go away. We heard the story about ‘Elmer’ and we enjoyed making pictures of him. We made a collage of ourselves for our Class Charter.

WELCOME TO P1A’s BLOG

All the children in P1A are settling in well at school and they are getting used to our class routines. Everyone is engaging well with learning and lots of new friendships are being formed. They are enjoying playing in the playground and eating the yummy school lunches.

We will be having P.E. outdoors on Mondays and Wednesdays and at the moment the children just need to bring a change of shoes. We will be doing lots of outdoor learning so it would be advisable to bring a jacket to school every day just in case it rains.
