Rainbow Room

Pancake Day 2022!

The children celebrated Shrove Tuesday by making loads of yummy pancakes in the Rainbow Room yesterday!  All of the children helped the staff choose and mix all the ingredients together.  The children were learning to take turns and work together as a team.  They had lots of different fruity toppings that they added to their pancakes and the children were learning to use knives safely to cut their fruit, whilst developing their hand eye coordination and fine motor skills.  This was also a good opportunity for the children to explore different foods and try something new, they all really enjoyed it, as did the staff! 🙂

CHINESE NEW YEAR 2022

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!  This is the year of the tiger!  The children in the Rainbow Room celebrated today by trying new foods for snack such as noodles.  They had a great time trying to use their own chop sticks.  This was great for the children to practise their fine motor skills.

The Rainbow Room children also started making their very own junk model dragon outdoors and had fun creating red coloured rice for our sensory tray in the home corner.  We had a great day learning about a different culture and the fun ways in which we can celebrate different traditions.

BURNS DAY 2022

The children in the Rainbow Room celebrated Burns Day this year by creating lovely pictures of tartan and thistles!  They also had a tasty Burns supper where they tried loads of different Scottish foods including haggis, shortbread and some tattie scones 🙂  Everyone had a great day celebrating all things Scottish!

JANUARY 2022

Welcome back everyone!  We hope you all had a great Christmas break and we’re so happy to see all the children back in the Rainbow Room.  We’ve welcomed loads of new little faces and we’re creating fun experiences within the room and creating an environment where relationships and learning can flourish 🙂

This month staff have created lovely areas within our room for the children to explore, investigate and to develop curiosity.  Our home corner has turned into a florist!  The children have loved smelling the flowers and creating their own bouquets.  We hope to make our very own perfume next week!

Outdoors staff have created a little workshop, equipped with child friendly tools.  The children have been learning how to use these safely and have been exploring the different ways in which we can use them.  This is also helping to develop their hand eye coordination and fine motor control.

NOVEMBER 2021

In the Rainbow Room this month we have been exploring different ways to create colourful fireworks both in and out of the playroom!  We have been using powder paints and water balloons to see if we can recreate some of the beautiful colours 😀

Last week we said goodbye to the Rainbow Room for the summer!  We wish the best of luck to all the children moving onto new centres or transitioning into our very own Butterfly Room 🙂

We hope all of you have a wonderful summer and we’ll see you when you return in August! 🙂

Our Feelings Wall

The staff in the Rainbow Room have created a feelings wall to discuss feelings and emotions with the children.  The children are asked at Welcome Time how they are feeling that day and to share it with staff and their peers by placing their picture on the correlating feeling.  The feelings are represented by colour monsters taken from the story “The Colour Monster”

Yellow – Happy

Red – Angry

Green – Calm

Black – Frightened

Blue – Sad

The Rainbow Room would love it if you could discuss feelings at home with your child to develop their understanding of emotions.  We would really like it if you could share any learning or pictures with us! 🙂
