World Book Day!
3rd March 2022

Zone A

The children in Zone A enjoyed exploring ‘Rainbow Fish’, ‘Commotion in the Ocean’, and ‘Zippo the Super Hippo’.

They explored some small loose parts to decorate their own little rainbow fish, and got creative making characters from the other stories!

Zone B

The children in Zone B enjoyed reading ‘The Snail and the Whale’, ‘Superworm’ and ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’.

With these stories as inspiration, some of the children decided to write their own short stories where they were both the author and illustrator.

The children in Zone B practised their spreading skills using knives to spread the butter on top.

The playroom smelled soooooo yummy today! 😋🥞

The Three Little Pigs
Zone A
24.02.22

The children in Zone A have been exploring the story of the three little pigs. They have been learning about rhyming words and been repeating parts of the story, they have been particularly enjoying saying “I’ll huff and I’ll puff”.

Lots of the children have been getting creative by making the three houses from the story too. What fun exploring the story in different contexts!

Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week
7th-14th February 2022

From the week of 7th – 14th February we celebrated CHD awareness week at Galston ECC. This is a condition that affects a very brave boy who attends our centre. We are all so proud of how he copes with his condition and comes in each day with a big smile on his face.

Throughout this week the children in Zone B took part in lots of different exercises to feel their heart beating faster and learned the importance of exercise for a healthy heart.

The children also got crafty when making a big awareness symbol and sharing the things they had learned about their hearts. They also painted some stones with the CHD awareness colours on them to share in our community.

“Your heart beats” – Andrew
“I got medicine everyday” -Cian
“Oranges keep you healthy” -Layla
“Your Heart goes back and forth” – Parker

♥Thank you for sharing your condition with us and teaching us all something new about our hearts. ♥

Happy Burns Day!
25.01.22

Our Children in the Butterfly room had an awfy gid day today! We have been working hard at learning some new Scottish poems and songs recently, so decided to perform these recitals to our friends on burns day.
We also had a guest dancer in from P6 today, we loved watching Lucy do her highland dancing. Well done! Cian brought in his bagpipes to play and we had a recording sent in from David playing his accordion to dance a highland fling to.
Most of us tried some haggis neeps and tatties today too, some of us thought it was yummy!

What a brilliant day full of singing, dancing and fun!

Summer Fun!

22.07.21

This week has been hot hot hot!  We have been spending lots of time outdoors, creating our very own slip and slide and having lots of water fights 🙂

Zone A have been eating yummy ice lollies, pitching tents, building cars and houses using different materials outdoors and having picnics outdoors!

Zone B have created their own giant bubbles, picked carrots from our vegetable patch and went on a trip to Tesco!  We hope everyone is having a wonderful summer and remembering to put their sun cream and hats on! 😀

Zone A
09/07/21

We have had a little move around during the summer and some of our children are getting to experience other parts of the playroom they have not seen in a while!

So far we have enjoyed lots of messy play, exploring the cars through different tubes and tape, and of course many mornings out enjoying nature! We even managed a little walk through the village to the playing fields to play some ring games in a bigger space.

Here’s a wee snapshot of our summer fun so far…

Last Week of Term!

Everyone at Galston Early Childhood Centre had an absolute ball at our end of term party! We danced, played games, bounced on the bouncy castle and had a really yummy ice cream as a special treat. A special good luck and goodbye to all of our pre-school children moving on to Primary one in August. We know you will all love it and continue to grow into the wonderful young people you are!

We would like to wish you all a lovely summer holiday at home or in the centre with us!

This year has been like no other and we are so proud of our children, families, staff and everyone else involved with our centre for pulling together and making it so special!

Health Week!

Friday 18th June

On Friday all zones took part in running races and what fun we had! The children had been practising their running all week in preparation for today. They took part in a mixture of races including running, hopping, teddy bear racing, relay and some different balancing races.

Well done everyone for working so hard all week and taking part in lots of new and different sports and experiences!

Thursday 17th June
Zone B

Today the children in Zone B were practising their road safety when using our bikes. They helped Natalie design a road on the pavement to follow. This time they had a zebra crossing, give way points and a roundabout to navigate through. When at the zebra crossing the children took turns to hold the lolly pop stick and look left and right to make sure it was safe for their friends to cross. At group time we enjoyed learning about Ziggy on his travels.

Wednesday 16th June

On Wednesday… we danced!

Today we had Ruth from Dynamite Dance who came in to dance with us. We had so much fun learning lots of new dance moves and we could even request our favourite songs. Some favourite requests were baby shark, Elsa songs, Moana songs, little mix and someone even suggested some GBX! Here’s a little sneaky peak into our fun Wednesday full of dance.

Thank you Ruth- we all loved it!

Tuesday 15th June Zone B

The children in Zone B had so much fun today playing football! They practiced the game and the rules in the nursery garden before taking a short walk out to the big pitches behind the school for a big game!

It was so exciting getting to play on the big pitch and we all tried to score a goal.

Well done team!

Tuesday 15th June Zone A – Afternoon Group

This afternoon the children in Zone A also took part in some cycling fun! They waited for a turn of the bikes and selected one from the parking lot. They developed their balancing skills and built up stamina by cycling round the roads created on the paving.

Once the children had finished their turn, they matched the number of bike up to the correct number at the parking bay.

Super cycling everyone!

Tuesday 15th June Zone A – Morning Group

This morning the children in Zone A helped to draw out road markings on the paving to practice their cycling. They used some road signs to signal when they can go and when to stop. After lunch time we joined together to read some of the ‘Ziggy’ road safety books. Ziggy went on a big adventure!

ZONE A
28.05.21
PM

The children in the afternoon have enjoyed going up to the gym hall at the end of the day to play some ring games.
Recently, all of our children going up to Galston primary one in August have been visiting the school on transition walks. We decided to go to the gym hall as a group and play some games and ring games when the school was quiet.

We played:

  • The sandy children
  • Aeroplane song
  • The big brown bear
  • Roly poly song
  • Musical statues

ZONE A
28.05.21
AM

The children in the morning group at ZONE A have been creating some fantastic buildings recently!  They  worked together to create a wall that they decided should be part of an ice-cream van.

Well done for piecing each block together to construct your model!

ZONE B
28.05.21
Ice- Cream Shop!

The children in Zone B have moved from  a bakers shop to an ice cream shop! They played imaginatively with play dough and a lovely smelling mouldable foam.

“I love the smell. It makes me want to eat it” – Eva W
“I’m putting sprinkles on mine” – Layla

Because the children were pretending to make their own ice-cream we decided to try and make some real ice-cream. This took lots of great team work. The children measured out the ingredients and had to shake the bag lots and lots to make it change from milk into ice cream. The best part was the taste test at the end!

“What ice-cream do you want?” – Harris
“This is strawberry ice-cream” – Bonnie

ZONE B
14.05.21
We made Bread!

This week the children in Zone B have been investigating the ingredients needed to make bread. They found out where flour comes from and explored how it smells and feels through play. They found out more about yeast and why it is so important in making bread.
Once they had finished all their research they made a delicious loaf and got to taste it.

“The flour is so soft” – Kieran
“This is almost turning bread. It feels like breadcrumbs” – Halle
“It feels like soap powder” – Mirren
“I can make sandwiches” – Nathan
“You need water in it” – Tessa

“Smells like banana’s!” – Lyle

Our playroom had a lovely smell of freshly baked bread…. or banana’s!
