Makaton

The children in Galston ECC have been learning some Makaton signs as a different way to communicate.  Learning Makaton is a visual way to develop communication skills and can be helpful in developing understanding.  Using Makaton can help to support children with no speech, children with unclear speech or children who have communication difficulties.

We have chosen 4signs to focus on both within the Rainbow and the Butterfly Room and these are please, thank you, water and milk.  The staff use these throughout the day with the children but specifically during snack, lunch and high tea.  Below are pictures of the signs, please feel free to practise these at home and send us pictures/videos!  You can do this via twitter, email or e-learning journals.

 

 

 

Our Communication Champion is Irene Sayers

The communication Champions role is to support early communication and speech development for children within the centre,   She has dedicated time within the Centre to support children within the playroom and on a 1:1 basis and within small groups within the playroom
