Puddles Everywhere!
23.02.22

Our children have been so excited about the giant puddles that have formed in our garden. They have explored running through them, jumping in them, splashing in them, wading object through them and much more!

Along with the theme of pirates some children also made a plank to balance across and jump off the other side.

Outdoors Zone B

Since starting back to the centre this new year our children in zone B have taken an interest in all things Scottish! They have been learning all about our country and some of the things we are famous for. Whilst playing outdoors some children have been building castles using the large construction squares, some have also been building castles indoors too.

“That looks like Edinburgh Castle.”

We have also been finding lots of worms under the logs!

Going Wild for the month of July!

This month we are going to ‘go wild’ by taking part in The Wildlife Trust’s #30 Days Wild challenge

Take a look at the Random Act of Wildness challenges …

WEEK 1

WEEK 2

WEEK 3

WEEK 4

03/08/21

Take a look at a little insight into our month of wildness this July! One of our favourite things to do this summer has definitely been playing in the water! Our children explored paddling in the water, splashing it, throwing it, sliding down hills with it and lots more. Water play gave us endless amounts of fun!

We also enjoyed eating outside, harvesting our vegetables and giving them a try, reading under the trees, exploring our local wildlife on some walks and so much more.

These wildness ideas gave us some really good tips this summer of things to do outside and we hope it gave you something to do too!

ZONE B
Beach Day and Fun in the Sun!
04.06.21

This week has been such a lovely warm and sunny week! The children in Zone B have been taking full advantage of this and decided to have a ‘beach day’ on Wednesday.

What great fun splashing each other, running through our garden bare footed and lying out on the grass to dry and feel the nice warm sun on our backs.

The perfect cool down with an ice lolly in the shade at the end of the day! Lets hope for lots more sunny weeks like this.

“Dance with the waves,
Move with the sea.
Let the rhythm of the water,
Set your soul free.”

-Christy Ann Martine

ZONE B
14.05.21

Because the children in Zone B has take a keen interest in farming vehicles and tractors in particular they decided to use some loose parts in our garden area to construct their own tractors.

The children communicated well within their group and reasoned with each other when selecting different parts. They developed their problem solving skills as they investigated how each part worked to create their final tractors.

“It’s my wheel to drive” – Kieran
“This is one of the wheels” – Ethyn
“This can be a seat. It is the base of the tractor” – Myla
Emma added mud to the engine – “To make it vroom!”

Well done everyone, great investigating and team work!

Our Visit from the lambs!
07.05.21

Today has been such an exciting day for us!

Because the children in the butterfly room have shown an interest in farming, animals and tractors we have been finding out more about them. Lucky for us, one of our nursery ladies lives on a farm where they have been very busy during lambing time.

Trish was able to bring four of their pet lambs in to visit us. We all got a shot at either patting, feeding or looking after these lambs today.

We learned lots more about lambs and sheep today and found out:

  • lambs drink milk from their mummy or a bottle
  • they need a nice dry and cosy bed of straw to sleep in, or a mummy out in the field to stay warm beside
  • they will grow up to be a tup if a boy and a ewe if a girl
  • they have numbers sprayed on their tummy’s to help the farmer match them up with their siblings and mum if they get lost

This has inspired a lot of conversation with the children in both the rainbow and butterfly rooms about lambs and sheep.

“Steven the lamb!” – Ruairidh
“Rosie and Mary” – Michael & Tilly
“Fuzzy” – Clara
“I think they live in a crib” – Charlie
“the lambs are cute” – Darcey
“I jumped cause I wasn’t expecting it to do that!” – Ayda
“I think it will feel like pepper. It’s called Dave and it likes watermelon.” – Sam

Lamb Visit

We were very proud of all the children today being so gentle around the little lambs and taking such good care of them! I wonder if we could enjoy some more animal magic in the future…
