In our novel The Boy with the Bronze Axe, we have been learning about the different jobs and skills people had in the stone age. They made their pots from clay and were skilled pottery makers who created pots and added decorations to their design.
We became potters for the afternoon. We used air dry clay and shaped and decorated our pots.
We have been creating art using different media. This week we experimented with salt art. We learned that the salt quickly absorbed the water colours and spread along the line of salt. Our finished thistles look fantastic.
Paired Reading We have been sharing our love of reading with other classes. We have been role models to younger pupils sharing our enthusiasm to read as we build a reading culture within our school.
Today we were very excited to have an opportunity to choose a book from East Ayrshire’s mobile library van. Mrs Sweeney organised this visit for us as part of our journey to become a Reading School.
We were amazed by the selection of books in the van. Everyone took their time to look at the covers, read the blurbs and then help each other to choose. These books will stay in school.
Afterwards, we spent some time in the shelter exploring our books and sharing the titles we had chosen with each other. We can’t wait for our next visit and to choose another book in a couple of weeks time.
