Literacy
Pupils are continuing to develop their knowledge of phonemes. This week the pupils were able to use Elkonin boxes to segment their new spelling words according to their sounds. In grammar the pupils were analysing what actually makes a sentence. They were able to identify that a sentence must include a capital letter , full stop and a verb in order to make sense!
P3 have moved on to developing the problem in their narrative stories this week. They were able to include a sequence of events that were packed full of action verbs and similes! They were also able to explain how their characters felt during the problem of their story.
Numeracy
P3 are continuing to practise their new Number Talks strategy this week. They have been using their knowledge of friendly numbers to make a ten when adding and bridging, and can use an empty number line to help them with this strategy.
Take a look in the photos to see P3’s top tips for adding!
The pupils are continuing to develop their understanding of data handling in maths. This week the pupils explored the use of venn diagrams. The pupils worked together to sort toy animals according to the criteria.
Other Curricular Areas
P3 pupils are continuing to explore warm and cool colours in art. The pupils are able to identify which colours are cool and warm colours on the colour wheel. They could then discuss which emotions the different colours made them feel. The pupils used oil pastels to learn the ranges of these colours and to create and abstract art piece.
The pupils also put their design and constructions skills to the test this week when they were challenge to build a zoo. Needless to say that we have a very creative bunch in P3!
